Don't Penalize, Educate...Request to Lower Sentence

Rosa Ortega was sentenced to 8 years in prison while others who have killed and raped have received lower sentences. Although we understand the severity of this issue and coincidentally this comes at a time when immigration reform is a major topic after our most recent election. As a community we feel Rosa is a target of this political issue. Rosa as many other immigrants have been victims of not understanding and not being educated on their political status. She is 1 of millions that have paid thousands for continued documentation and legal representation in the matter only to not fully comprehend their legal status.

As per the recent plea bargain that was discussed, we feel Rosa should be educated and perhaps given some leniency in the matter rather than penalized so harshly as do thousands of Americans who have also commented on social media. She is not the first that has been in this situation, perhaps the only to be penalized. As a community we feel this should serve as a lesson both to the political parties and the community that education is key.

We can work together to educate the immigrant community on what their political rights are.

We are requesting her case be reconsidered.
