Hoa just fines you to tell you how to live on your own property. No HOA should be on tax paying homeowner who owns their own home&bland. I can understand reasonable fee on condos&stow homes but not property homeowner maintains. This Hoa problem is out of hand and SC homeowners having health problems and heart attacks . Please let us live in peace, we pay 4 sources as tax payers county, state, storm drainage , & Hoa and ROADS not maintained properly to be safe and look horrible . Not fair we pay for someone to collect to dictate to us. Hoa cannot be fair ever. They can take your home after running fee up to 1800 , people owe more in credit cards and they not taking your home. Hoa threaten you and claim no one has jurisdiction when they are just rip off unfair controlling and take your last dollar for nothing. They not paying taxes but we tax payers suffering. HOA is biggest rip off. Hoa must be banned forever . To have life, liberty, freedom, health & pursuit of happiness. HOA be Removed out our lives forever. Hoa takes away precious time & health that should be valued.

Outrageous that an HOA fee can be over $150 a month for a condo yet some developments with houses and yards are $40.00 a month! HOA's are LEGALIZED EXTORTION... Are you telling me that, say a 200 unit development paying $200 a month is acceptable? That's $40,000 a month! How can that be justified? It doesn't take $40,000 a month to maintain a property... and they get away with it... that's if you can find a lender who even lets you buy a condo... banks suck, hoa's suck...

Another facet of the facist/socialist agenda to degrade and take away our inalienable rights. Being FORCED to join/pay-in to in able to purchase a home with no oversight or accountability for the HOA management company that can put a "LIEN" onto YOUR home

In our neighborhood, homeowners are forced to treat their yards with harsh chemicals for weeds. We got a second notice to treat our weeds. The letter also stated that there may be a fine in the future for not treating weeds. It seems like they are nit picking to collect money from homeowners. It's amazing that noone is above these people. The people we pay property tax to, has no say in this matter.

Why should I pay dues for someone to tell me what to do with my own house and property. It makes no sense what so ever. The one I am in now is too dysfunctional to even operate properly.

When we bought our home, the subdivision had NO amenities, generous covenants, but $225 a year for a corporate management company selected by the builder. Homes that are a disgrace have been that way for 10 years. Builders destroyed our woods and built shabby, cheap homes that devalued ours. I could go on. The HOA has done nothing but send an annual bill. We don't need an HOA in our subidivision. These are individual homes and not condos. Why can't we sign the subdivision over to the city. The egomaniacs who appointed themselves to the 'advisory committee' have consistently violated our civil rights. Our properties have not increased in value as have other homes in the area during this past year, 2016. There's over $60K in some kind of 'reserve fund'. That's 10 years worth of annual fees waiting for someone to pilfer.

They have to much power over your home. There should be a way to incorporate the payments in your mortgage loan. And let them vote or hold say to your homes. Nothe some overpowered individual without empathy.

I am a HOA board member, delinquent payment of fees is the biggest non-compliance issue with no enforcement by the board. Board leaders are egomaniacs and non-effective. Basically no involvement from homeowners. I understand the theory behind HOAs but sometimes its just not worth it.

The answer isn't to dissolve HOAs. They need to exist in some form. The answer I think is that the entire structure of how HOA leadership operates must be changed. One board with total judicial, executive, and legislative control over members of the association just doesn't work, as it didn't in the Soviet Union, China, East Germany, pre-revolution Britain, etc. And there has to be a cheaper way to address the tyranny which runs rampant in such a structure. They underlying motto of the board has always been "what are are they going to do? Sue us?" It finally took one gutsy homeowner with the time and money to actually do just that. $30k later and the board is still holding on to their power with dear life. It's just a law of nature that most people cannot handle total control. The demons manifest. The greed and meanness manifests. This is what our founding fathers knew too. So, as a corporation, can an HOA create CCRs and BYLAWS that spread out the powers and duties, like our federal government does? What else can be done? Let's brainstorm.

HOA's have the power to take a property from a "homeowner" without due process. Tenant's, in most cases, have more rights than homeowners do. This is simply un-American, and not what I risked my life for. I formally request the American Dream be protected.

As a young person I eventually plan to invest in my own property. Why should I be made to pay dues to an organization that tells me what I can and can't do with my own property? Regardless of where the money goes and what someone else's opinion may be about how I keep my property, I shouldn't be bullied into doing anything else than what I want with what is likely the biggest investment I will ever make in my life. Unless I'm doing harm to others, nobody should have that authority. HOA's are un-American, period.

We have been under attach by an unscrupulous board of directors who are making our lives a living hell by mishandling our trust funds, unjustly and excessively sending violation letters out to those who oppose them and then threatening liens and foreclosure to take away our property. They have ransacked our reserves and are spending all our money. We tried removing them but they got help invalidating most of our signatures by creating new rules. And they are using a very unscrupulous and shoddy workman of a contractor who has overcharged our association to the tune of hundreds of thousand of dollars, who helps the board create false allegations of violations to use against us. Please, please help! They are like the Mafia or a Hitlerian regime. The HOA system is corrupt and abusive. Forget your rights as an American if you reside in one. The system is rigged by the industry--management companies, their lawyers, vendors. There is little or no protection of basic human rights and you stand to lose everything just trying to protect yourself and your property.

I don't understand why it's gone this far. Why hasn't ANYbody stopped this craziness a long time ago? Now, it's out of hand! I have never lived in an HOA, so my family and I didn't know anything horrible about them. We told the sales people that we had a lot of cars (6).. they said "oh, you can just park in the overflow spots". We said "okay"... sounded reasonable. Now, 10 months later, they changed rules saying that the spaces were were parking in are now going to just be visitor parking. THERE IS NO RESIDENTIAL PARKING right now. Some guy complained because we always parked a couple of cars in front of his home (even though HE is the one that purchased the home KNOWING there was already residential parking spaces there). He just didn't like that we had our cars in front of his home. His solution to us was to either "get rid" of our cars or "park in someone else's development". Mind you, our home is RIGHT near his and that is the only place residential parking was. There are over 200+ units in this new community. He could have chose ANY other home to live in. But anyway... there is also a clubhouse parking area RIGHT across the street that has on average 0-1 car daily. It has close to 25 open spots (not including handicapped spots)... and parking there is strictly prohibited. Now, I have to park in my driveway that does not fit all the cars.. cars are blocking some of the sidewalk. That's the best we can do for now before we find other solutions. If we park anywhere else, it's a 250 dollar fine and later towing. SMH. Now, I have to come home from a long 8 hour day shift worrying about if I'm going to see a fine because of how I'm parked in my driveway. Moving right now is not an option. Seems like HOA meetings are secretly held if held at all!!... I don't even know who attends, or if they even have them. My neighbors are most likely not getting any notices in their mailbox because we aren't either.

HOA are completely unconstitutional. How can someone tell me how to cut my bushes or what color siding to put on my house. Fine me for getting my roof fixed from hail damage. I am being forced to pay 2 different HOA dues. i live in Oakwood Townhomes neighborhood and i pay HOA dues to them and Im forced to pay dues to Hampshire Neighborhood across the street because they say our community resident use their pool and participate in the community events. I in 14 years have never participated in any of their events.
