The DEA's arbitrary decisions regarding drug scheduling follows an antiquated model base on wrong or outdated data. This is in direct contradiction to what should be it's goal. The DEA needs to be abolished. -

The DEA is the biggest joke and the worst waste of money. They have caused hundreds and thousands of people to suffer now because of some ******** they think that will stop opioid abuse. You're taking opioids away from the wrong people you idiots . Just because you stop giving it to the people who need it doesn't mean that the people who don't need it won't take it . I don't know why I waste my breath. The DEA has ****ed up our healthcare system SO badly, who knows if the damage they've done can ever be undone. I think it's with knowledge and intent that the United States government created this mess. The intent was never to get drugs off the street. It's to ensure there will be an adequate supply of inmates for the private prison system, which is now the #1 largest employer in the United States, with a lobbying group that's more powerful and wealthy than the far more scrutinized Big Oil, Big Pharma and the gun lobby. They've paid out over $10 Million dollars to candidates, and spent over $25 Million in lobbying efforts. Every year they take in over $3.3 Billion in profits, The population of private prisons more than doubled between 2000 and 2010. Does anyone believe for one second they're going to be willing to give up one penny from the federally guaranteed quotas? Just like the politicians they grease, the greed is oozing out of their unethical asses. Do you honestly believe the attack on Purdue Pharmaceutical is anything more than a smokescreen? Many legit pain patients have benefitted from Oxycontin. If they're taking it for pain, not to get high, there is rarely a problem. What should have happened is that doctors shouldn't have allowed a continuous escalation in the dosage after an initial dose was found where the person had good pain control and good daily functioning. How many drugs have caused far greater damage? How many drugs have black box warnings? Plenty. Our government would have you believe they're altruistic and do things in our best interest. If anyone is naive enough to believe that, I have a bridge. For those of us who benefitted from drugs that were used often for decades very successfully, like Davocet-N or Midrin, you know it's nothing more than greed that drives the decisions. Darvocet-N had been used very successfully since 1959, and all of a sudden it's such an imminent threat to one's health that they had every pharmacy in the country remove it immediately. Hmm... I don't know about you, but I feel the decision as to whether the risk is too great to outweigh the benefits is a decision I'm quite capable of making for myself as an intelligent adult. For those who aren't capable of weighing the benefits vs the risks, THAT'S what doctors are for. Not the FDA, the DEA, the Dept of health and human services, or any other government entity, politico, or anyone else who wants to take away our options and back is into corners. What the government, the DEA, managed care groups, and state medical boards have done is made it impossible for doctors to do the job they spent so much time studying to do, not to mention the money many of them probably now regret wasting. In turn the above, as well as all the doctors who can't seem to understand there's a real need to band together with patients and bring a class action suit against the DEA, the FDA, managed care groups (Ohio Health is one I'm familiar with who has taken great strides to ensure none of their doctors prescribe opioids, even pain mgmt doctors.) and state medical boards. You might think, forget it, the government can't be sued. Wrong, they can't be sued for damages, however they most certainly CAN be sued to get them to act in a certain manner, reverse unjust legislation, and "guidelines", etc. . . I don't understand why it hasn't happened yet. I fall to believe it won't happen. As more and more patients run out of workable options, as more and more chronic pain patients commit suicide, overdose on acetaminophen - which by the way is far more likely to kill someone than someone who's prescribed an adequate dose of single ingredient pain medication. Acetaminophen, taken in a dose high enough to relieve severe pain is enough to create irreversible liver damage. There will be those who are turned away from doctors who find it necessary to resort to dealers. Our government is 100% responsible for creating an entirely new black market. And they are very aware. When are we going to stand together and say enough is enough?! I'm so ****ing angry, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Frankly I hope ANYONE who has had ANYTHING to do with the current policies, and those who profit from them (ex. private prison lobbyists and management) have some debilitating and life shattering accident that causes them lifelong chronic pain. I want them to have to experience first-hand being subjected to the outrageously expensive drug testing, that's often not a covered expense, every time they go to see a doctor - not just pain doctors. I want them to have to go through psych evaluations when they try to find someone to treat them, again another expense that's out of pocket. And even when they pass that $2,500 drug test, and pass the psych eval which cost $500 - $1,000, for no reason the doctor can decide not to treat you. Yep, I want every ****ing one of them, including the doctors who won't treat someone without cause, to suffer every iota of what we suffer. Do you suppose we'd be in this mess if that were the case? Not a chance in HELL!REPORT COMMENTS

The DEA should be disbanded because it shouldn't be illegal to take a substance. Im an American citizen and I'm scared that i will go to jail for a non violent offense. Jail is a violent place that has its own issues and not a place for someone that just wanted to smoke a little bit of weed. Portugal made all drugs legal and they seem to be doing fine. we should start programs to help people addicted to drugsREPORT COMMENTS

It's almost unbelievable that this agency has been allowed to run rampant with no supervision for so long, especially when there is no quantifiable data to show that they have been of any use whatsoever. Please disband this group of domestic terrorists. They do nothing but destroy American lives, tear apart families, and manufacture criminals where none truly exist. They're anti-science, anti-medicine, anti-peace, discriminatory war mongers, who solely exist to feed the already too bloated prison industrial complex. Incarceration is not the way to deal with substance abuse! Please stop waging a war on US citizens, end the failed war on drugs, and get rid of this horrible organization.REPORT COMMENTS

In their latest quest to declare war on good people, the DEA is trying to ban Kratom. It is a natural plant that has been used for centuries and is safe! This plant can even help with opiate addiction! That is the very thing we are talking about during opiate awareness week! Because of the way the DEA has handled Kratom and also the recent lies about marijuana, I have decided that the war on drugs is nothing more than a government-sponsored mafia. There is no other reason why they would be kicking down doors and ruining lives over plants!REPORT COMMENTS

The DEA has caused more suffering for the disabled and physically afflicted then any disease or misfortune. It's time to put a stop to this obsolete, overfunded rogue agency. The war on drugs has been an epic fail. If they ever even had any usefulness, they have out lived it. Furthermore, they should not be in charge of scheduling drugs. They are not a medical agency; those decisions should be for the FDA or Alcohol/Tobacco. This agency's only purpose is to harass, abuse, and ensure their own job security, while sucking up money that could be better used elsewhere. Enough of these out of control thugs!REPORT COMMENTS
