"People give it an hour of their time, writes Bill Moyers, and they get something in return that dignifies life rather than debasing it." NPR gives us so much more than just great independent journalism. It's global news, uniting stories, information shared that educate all American's. It makes our lives better, makes us better humans, asks us to participate, rather than spectate. There is never going to be a more important time to support this incredible resource. Join me, Darren Mills, in donating and supporting NPR & PBS today. Love, Darren

There has never been a more important time for independent journalism. NPR is an indispensable, vital resource at home and around the globe. So little of our taxes go to fund this great institution. We can and should do more to ensure it's place in our democracy. Defunding NPR would be a tragedy to this great nation. Join me, Darren Mills, in supporting this critical, independent resource and national treasure.

“Public radio is a true catalyst,” writes Bill Kling, founder and now retired president of Minnesota Public Radio. “It may already be the ‘electronic town meeting place’ for the local leadership base of the country. And with a few changes it could do far more.” I couldn't agree more. Protect this vital resource. Make it better. Fund it, donate, support it. With love, Darren Mills

"Public media is America’s best friend. It is Congress’s best friend. It reaches the people who, on every level of our society, from ordinary voters to community leaders to corporate CEOs, make the decisions in this country. Informing them well, as Newt Gingrich discovered, puts the power of factual information prepared by top professionals, with no editorializing or bias of ownership, directly into the hands of the leadership of America. All parties win in that environment. The loss will come if public media is starved to the point of having to give control over its powerful transmitters and Internet services to whomever is left — well meaning but inexperienced and often naïve, mission-driven people, with strong political views, for whom material rewards mean little and advocacy is everything." Important words that I strongly agree with. Read this piece: http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/politics/153689-public-broadcasting-is-a-vital-public-service- And donate to NPR today. Thank you, Darren Mills, San Diego, CA

"On the day that planes toppled the twin towers, the crew of my show came to work to be on the air overnight. Millions of Americans were reeling and grieving. I have covered wars, politics, county fairs, catastrophes, tragedies, comedies and crimes for NPR. I will never do shows more important than the ones we did the week of Sept. 11, 2001. We told the stories of heroes, sought out wise people, read some poems and opened our microphones to people from the heart of America who hungered to hear each other. I was glad we could be there; a steady, trusty light on the dial from early morning to the middle of the night. When the week ended, we put our arms around each other and took a moment to feel, as we are able to every week, that we had done something pretty good for our country. Scott Simon hosts NPR's "Weekend Edition Saturday." On the day that planes toppled the twin towers, the crew of my show came to work to be on the air overnight. NPR is indispensable. We are living through an unprecedented time where attacks on our citizens, our free press, intellectualism, our plurality, our liberty are coming form our very own White House. We cannot stand for this. We must preserve our great American institutions, those vital to informing us and providing independent journalism and great voices of our time. Do not defund NPR, I beg of you. Sincerely, Darren Mills.

I am certainly glad that there has been such little support for this vile task. NPR is an invaluable resource, and critical to so many around the globe. We spend so much on war, and spend a little on humanity and making lives better and real independent journalism. Do not defund NPR. Keep the 1st Amendment and real information alive. It's never been more important. Sincerely, Darren Mills, San Diego, CA.

On July 4th NPR tweeted out our Declaration of Independence. Never has there been a more important time in history for citizens to be informed, educated and engaged. It was an important moment in our history and I have unimaginable gratitude for NPR's patriotism and commitment to independent journalism. Nothing matters more at this moment. Love, Darren Mills.

Why defund NPR? This doesn't make a lick of sense to me. It sounds like whoever wrote this petition is surprisingly butthurt and really can't take actual news. Whoever wrote this really should be ashamed of themselves. NPR just barely swings left when put on a political scale. Where did the writer get this made-up George Soros garbage too? Fox News? Just take this down honestly. It is an embarrassment.

Ahhh yes, that "radical left wing message" known as the Declaration of Independence. Sorry, Einstein. If you can't recognize the Declaration of independence, either you failed your education or it failed you. Either way, we'll continue to fund NPR if for no other reason than to aggravate morons and encourage information sharing.

NPR is giving the # 1 purveyor of Fake News to the American people, CNN a run for top spot. Their biased reporting, if we can call it that, against the Trump administration, have been incessant, relentless and pernicious. Their attacks more open, shameless and virulent. They are clearly and vital part of the Fake News Network. All of that would be well and good since they are protected under the First Amendment, EXCEPT for the fact that they are funded via the National Endowment for the Arts with our tax dollars. I have a problem with that and therefore I'm signing this petition asking that Congress take action.

On NPR, I heard a report on an USBP shooting. I know that drug smuggling cartels use teenage kids as scouts. When NPR described the shooting of a teenager on the border they said that the agent shot the child as he "scampered away". Any law enforcement shooting needs to be investigated. However the anti police drumbeat is affecting police safety. I don't want my tax dollars to go to that.

(even AARP has multiple links to it ?!?) somehow, i received a heartfelt message from our local PBS station (i immediately unsubscribed) which started my day & started my defund search. i wonder how much $ PBS makes from dvd sales alone -- to the many libraries & colleges throughout the U.S. ?

I am an attorney who listens to NPR's station every day, to and from courts. Diane Rehm's usually-objective broadcasts have been replaced by "1-A" --an extremely liberally-biased program whose guests are rarely challenged as they spout propaganda, e.g., MSNBC's Chris Hayes. To justify funding, CPB. throws out "Big Bird" and "Science Friday" as examples. Fine. Let's specifically fund certain programs but no more "block funds" to perpetrate this anti-Trump, pro-minority-view nonsense.

When I was young, Public Broadcasting hosted shows like Firing Line with William F. Buckley. Those who think that National Progressive Radio (NPR) is balanced should ask where are the conservative shows or when will they give conservative intellectuals the same amount of air time to showcase their issues which are much broader than identity politics and the environment.
