I was recently released from prison for killing the man who raped my brother and I from the age of 5 to the age of 13. He was a senior Coast Guard Officer. The Coast Guard, on getting our reports, simply discharged him without prejudice, knowing he'd raped us over and over and knowing he would do it again. When I was just 4 years old, my mom trusted a family member to watch me. He was maybe about 14 at the time. We were watching a movie and he inappropriately touched me. I remember bits and pieces throughout my childhood of him doing this throughout the years and I remember when I started to realize what he was doing to me. I remember being scared and I remember finally telling my family what was going on. When I was younger and I built the strength to open my mouth, I expected someone to do something. To help me. Years later he had done it again. I was 14, he was in his 20s and he hurt me. He threatened me. He laughed in my face and he told me he regretted NOTHING. He's on the run now for raping my little cousin. I know what he did to her. I HATE him for it and I hate everyone just as much for not stopping him when he did it to me. She would have been safe. I live in fear now. Of every man. Of walking alone. I'm scared of being home alone. I've got such a lack of trust of even the most decent man or woman. I'm ashamed to even be alive. I'm ashamed to feel this way when I now have a child of my own to protect. For these children who feel silenced and unable to speak for themselves. Let's speak for them! We need to rid these monsters. We already live in a world unsafe to walk the streets, please do something.REPORT COMMENTS

Absolutely! The victim has to live with the horror and flashbacks for the rest of their lives. Most of the time, by the time the perpetrator even gets caught- they've done it numerous times before. I find looking at a child in a sexual manner and violating them is the most Disgusting and horrifying thing. They go after the most vulnerable people in the world.. children !!! Some people live with the guilt and shame for years and years before they even tell anyone or try to seek help. Other people can't live with the shame and their self esteem is gone and battle depression, substance abuse and even Suicide became the shame of it is too much. I absolutely think we need to change the laws and have harsher penalties, even death for Anyone who molests, rapes, traffic's, pimps, children. They break their spirit. My wife lost her virginity at 8 years old to a man 20+ years older than her. He got 20 years of prison but get out at 10 for good behavior. The effect upon one child alone will follow them a lifetime. The people I know that have been victims lead a life overflowing with alcoholism, drug addiction, prostitution, multiple abortions, theft, a haystack of mental health issues, and sometimes suicide. That's one person carrying that till they die. A child molester will in all probability attack much more than one child. The death penalty for those offenders really doesn't seem to be enough, but if it can protect one child that could come into that persons path then by all means, let's get a law in place for the death penalty.REPORT COMMENTS

We have allowed Judicial legislators softened by either their own vise based empathy or prison overcrowding to cloud how we punish those who deserve the harshest of punishments. Theft of Material items, drug abuse, and white collar crimes routinely receive longer sentences than sick people who prey on our children and cannot see the evil of their ways.
