I believe that mature students should be able to carry and take there medication,I am also a firm believer that the school employee prinicapl /teachers educated more about cystic fibrosis..I have a 6yr old grandson with cystic fibrosis, that goes to school he has his own private nurse with him at all times,I have asked the principal at different times what he knew about c.f,how would he be able to recognize *when a child c.f was flaring up?*how would the teacher's recognize it?,I have asked to have the Albany medical center pediactric pulmonary unit come in and explain some things to the staff*this idea was suggested, by the Albany medical center pulmonary unit* and this is the response I recieved by the rensselaer elementary principal *we would have to put it on the agenda,it would also have to be worked out to where the students(meaning my grandson)teachers was available to attend the meeting!! This is the statement that was said to me in October of 2015 by the elementary principal *well, here it is the end of the school year, and that meeting never was placed on the agenda * it is important for all staff to be educated about any child sickness *they are already aware of children with diabetes, seizures, asthmatic children. ..ect,why can they not be educated with children that have cystic fibrosis? Not only dose my grandson have cystic fibrosis, but he also has a trechostomy as well (this is why he has a private nurse ) the school system's need to be educated more about cystic fibrosis student's and the needs that are affiliated with them..and furthermore * I DO NOT BELIEVE A PRINICAL SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT,TO MAKE A 504 PLAN FOR ANY CYSTIC FIBROSIS CHILD *especially when they don't have the knowledge/education that is needed for the child.Jun 19th, 2016Someone from Wakeeney, KS signed.

CF patients also need lots of calories, taking time away from thier short lunch period doesn't help. The enzymes would not hurt anyone if gotten in the wrong hands.REPORT COMMENTS

As a teacher with CF students, I would very much like to see this law passed, especially since students will be required to show the school nurse their understanding and compliance with the prescribed dosage.REPORT COMMENTS

While everybody is concerning themselves with calories listed on menus everywhere, no one is saying anything about listing grams of carbohydrates per serving which is so important to diabetics.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a 44 year old with Cystic Fibrosis diagnosed at the age of 3. It was very difficult making to class after lunch without kids noticing my late arrival every day because I had to go to the nurses office first. Hence, they KNEW something had to be wrong with me and I was treated as an outcast for years. For a child with Cystic Fibrosis to be able to take their enzymes WHEN they need to, with meals is of utmost importance. Some people actually do better if they take them just before, during, or after meals. It varies from person to person. To have to go to the nurse's office just creates a delay in their nutritional value of the meals.REPORT COMMENTS
