I thought that military dogs are no longer classified as equipment. What gives? ?The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated? ~Mahatma GandhiNov 25th, 2013Someone from Virginia Beach, VA writes:
Cruel and unnecessary. These heroes would have no problem finding a loving family willing to adopt.REPORT COMMENTS

Just allow the dogs to come home. Possibly to go to soldiers who have been with them. This might help said soldiers better cope with returning. Please, have a heart.REPORT COMMENTS

Protect these loyal, faithful, patriotic and heroic dogs from euthanization once they reach retirement! They are not equipment! They protect and defend our soldiers on the front line, and they deserve a retirement with a loving family resting easy and loving life. Honor these heroes! In memory and in honor of American Humane Association's 2012 Hero Dog of the Year - GABE - who passed away recently on 02/13/13 - and his handler, SFC CHARLES SHUCK, who adopted Gabe at retirement and continued to serve this great nation and their community. These two American heroes went on 210 raids in Iraq, and Gabe was responsible for finding 26 IEDs, weapons, etc., and thus saved countless lives. Honor our American heroes!REPORT COMMENTS

Why are these dogs not being reassigned to homeland security jobs if possible? This would be invaluable to our homeland security department, not to mention a financial savings. The experience of the dog itself may be invaluable. Dogs should be allowed to come HOME, regardless.REPORT COMMENTS
