No driver's license means no employment in many, many cases and causes greater hardship and increases the inability to pay the very child support is is supposed to help collect. There has to be a better way. Give them back their driver's licenses so they can get to work!

I'm getting my license suspended and I'm paying my child support now I'm facing loss of jobs because they don't want to release my license. I've been paying my child support good. When I call the child support office they tell me that I have to talk to myou case worker and and is up to him if he wants to release it. What!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's telling me they decide if we can drive or not no matter if you pay or not.

I have been homeless, unable to pay back child support because my California Drivers license was suspended. I am a painter by trade, had my car impounded, that I was living in for shelter without a license. Since, I have been offered jobs, but am unable to drive to various locations with equipment for painting. Using public transportation is impossible. I can't pay anything if I cannot drive from job to job. I could even get by with some type of restricted drivers license to allow me get to and from work. Currently I am staying with my parents, a roof over my head, no car, no license and I have had job offers. Please help some of us that want to work and cannot without a license. If we owe, we owe, but how can we make things right if we can't make a living? It may be easiest for some that can take public transportation, but not when you need to carry equipment from city to city. No way to live at all.

Yes and custodial parents are fraudulently using child support for there own interest turning working fathers like me homeless she denied filing at first because she knew I was working two jobs to keep the rent and bills paid and watching after my daughter but house was in her name she kicked me out hitch hiked and walked for weeks to finally get back to Altadena from the high desert and been unable to get on my feet since

My boyfriend can't afford to pay his child support because the jobs that pay well require a drivers license to be hired. So suspending a license due to non payment because he can get a job that pays more re than minimum wage doesn't make sense. He wants to pay he wants to suee his kids but their mother won't allow him to. And when they were taking child support out of his check he was left with a $200 dollar check how can anyone one live off that. It wasn't enough to pay for his rent . So he had to quit . Makes no sense.

I am thoroughly disgusted at the fact that I have watched my brother loose his automotive business license because of a hiccup in payments to the child support agencies. This error, cost him his business, the means of how he was trying to support his family and pay his child support was taken from him. Is the idea here to disable these Men / Women to the point of going to jail as an only option? California state does nothing to the "Dead Beat Dads" who are living off of our prison system, (what do they pay?). The Dad's that are trying to keep a job, start a business, amount to something respectable after a family break up, are cut off at the knees for trying to be legit. The state actually hinders their chances of ever being able to rise above or provide. The interest charges of Child Support does not apply in every state of the U.S. I feel that the Interest is not necessary. I plead that the interest of arrears be stopped, wiped clean, zeroed. It is unfair to our American Men and Women who are trying to support their families. They cannot get a loan, buy a house, take a cruise with family, because of the "Interest" on arrears. The child support fees have been paid for, the interest that rolls over and accrues each year or month is the insanity that never gives them an option to catch up or pay off. Stop killing the spirit of our American people. ERASE all interest on child support fees. Let these people have a goal they can achieve one day. Why are they not allowed to take a vacation with a family they have paid fees for plus interest all these years? Please, help me to do something about this!! This interest money does not go to funding college for these children, it does not go to the custodial parent for child raising, the interest is a money racketeering system that the state collects on. No bank account pays 10 percent interest, so no one trying to earn a living and paying child support should be subjected to these interest fees. I am tired of seeing Men who are good and not "Dead Beats" that are losing their freedom to keep a regular bank account , drivers license, business license, savings account, or just a family vacation because our system treats them WORSE than a terrorist.

The law absolutely promotes violation of the penal code and causes unjust and unproductive arrests. It makes men that would otherwise never be criminals, criminals and fills the jails with nonviolent and unnecessary inmates. The judicial system has become nothing more than a major business for "private jail/prisons" to operate and make a massive profit on the unconstitutional incarserstion of innocent men. This law will do nothing more than cultivate criminals that should and would never be criminal in any other respect.

my job is my own business and i must have a driver license to do it and if i loose my license i loose my livelihood, i feel that the department of child support is violating my first amendment right of life and liberty by doing such. i do what i can to make my payments, but the court is so far behind that by the time i get to see a judge to adjust my required payment i get so far behind that they try and take my license. i feel that not only is this wrong but also that because my annual salary changes every year i have to have my case revisited and it costs me to have to pay more than i should because the court never back dates anything.

I am married to a man with a child and owes child support in California. We understand the burden that was put on the state when it shouldn't of. Now my step daughter is going to be 26years old this year and my husband lost his license which has not allowed him to work in his field of choice or has not been able to get a Job in the State due to his inability to get a Drivers License. If you guys can please review or make adjustments to this law so that these parents can provide a better life to their still minor children and hopefully pay off their child support much faster.

Back before the stock market crash I had a good job and had been paying child support. When the market fell I lost my job and had to go on unemployment for three years trying to find a job in a county that the highest unemployment rate in the nation. When my unemployment ran out I fell behind on child support and dcss suspended my liscence in 2012. Without a liscence I've been forced to take handyman jobs around my neighborhood . I went from making 32.00 an hour to 10.00 an hour, I'm forced to tell my boys , I can't see them because I don't have a liscence and can't get to them. I can hear in there voices the hurt that they feel. This law has caused more suffering in my children than the divorce did and it has been a hardship for us . I've been paying my regular support for around 8 to 10 months now after the 4th month dcss released my drivers liscence , I had to continue working odd jobs while I looked for something better and save every dime to get my vehicle registered and insurance ,this caused me to be a few days late on my child support payments for 2 or 3 mounth.I was told by dcss if I was late agian they will suspend my liscence agian.I explained to them I just needed some time to get it together , I want to pay for my boys, but the next month I was late and they suspended my liscence agian and I'm right back to square one . I saved to register and insure a vehicle I can't drive and still haven't seen my boys . Is the dcss looking out for my boys or just looking out for my money? Help! Please!

I am a disable Army Veteran. I have four children. I am divorce My Ex was with Jody while i was in Iraq. I'm from CA. I ended up having to pay child support and when i became disable i was not able to pay for my child support, for the reason i do not work any more. i live off my veteran benefits, but now because i have not paid my child support for not working. Child support services has put an order to suspend my license. i have 50/50 % custody of my children, my ex does not let me see them anymore. I have not seen my children in 7 months. She is not following the court order to meet at our meeting point to exchange my children on my time and day. I can barely afford to take her back to court, so how am i supposed to be able to go to my court day appointments and my Doctor appointments to the VA. Which take months to get an appointment as it is. If i do not have a license and my insurance is going to be cancel for being a non license driver what am i to do, is this the thanks i get for serving my country for 17 years? How i found out about my license being suspended in a couple of months is because i was trying to add my veteran status to my license for it to say veteran. if it was not for that reason i would of have no idea my license was being suspended. Child support did not send me a letter or called me to inform me that my license is being suspended, so now that I am trying to fix and prove to the court that i do not work and I am disabled now; in the mean time my license would be suspended and the court of course will take there time for them to clear those charges and fees that i cannot afford to get my license back. That is another headache i have to put up with now.

I can't find a job, since a lot of open jobs in California require you to have a class c license. I believe that this is an intended strategy to suspend someone's license to put them in arrears, so that CCSD can continue to charge the 10% and earn that extra money for the department. I can understand if they suspended someone's visa, but not a drivers license.

I represent clients in Family Law matters. Having no driver's license greatly hinders most of my clients from finding and keeping steady employment. This law prevents many responsible parents from fulfilling their child support obligations. End this travesty.

I constantly deal with this some months I am unable to pay so I usually pay past arrears with tax money. I work for my self and some months are slow. I see my daughter all the time. 3 days a week and every other weekend. Less now because she is 14 and decides to stay over at friends houses and what not . . My license has been suspended since July and I had no knowledge . Now I can not work and am stuck in constant loop. I am not a dead beat dad and this has ruined many working relationships over passed 14 yeats

This does not help speed up the process of collecting child support but delay it by creating more of a hardship by taking ones means of transportation.

My name is David Brown (Santa Cruz Ca) I have been paying child support since I was 17 years old. The child support office here in SC suspends my license every three months regardless of payment. They have also levied my bank account and over drew it for over $500 They also harrassed past employers and attempted to convince my parole officer at the time to surrender information and or violate me. (I am no longer on parole and the parole office refused to partake in their illegal activities. I just recieved a letter of intent to suspend yet again. (12/22/2016) As of now I pay every month and they are garnishing my pay checks. I am now having great difficulty keeping my car insured because of the frequent suspentions. It is also very dificult to obtain work as they will call and harrass my employers. All of this and I am not allowed to see my children. Also it should be noted that the Santa Cruz division of Dcsc has recently been investigated for fraud. (The judge called it an audit)

I receive Social Security however I have a NPO. I received no monetary benefits from my nonprofit organization but the SAN Bernardino, CA child support division states I have potential earnings and has used a GoFundMe account and my education as a determined factor in potential earnings to suggest that I can pay. My middle child is 19 years old and my youngest child died in foster care. I was informed on 12/14/16 that my case would be closed however it hasn't. I have gone around and around with child support regarding this matter. It is ridiculous that they are using information that my potential earnings makes me eligible to pay and they have never made a claim against the absent fathers.

I drive for Lyft as my source of income. Currently the DCSS is witholding funds from my pay to provide support for my child but they have also requested my drivees license suspension. So acting on the behalf of my child they are eliminating support payments going to my child. If my license is suspended, I will no longer be able to drive and the DCSS will no longer be receiving money for my child. They are therefore preventing my child from receiving support that would feed, purchase clothes and house my child. The DCSS is doing harm to this child. My child depends on this support. The DCSS is intentionally preventing this child from obtaining her needs for living.
