Who bought Congress so that we all have to have digital TV? I bet there isn't anyone who voted on making it mandatory who doesn't have cable or a satellite dish. Only low income American's are being penalized and many times unable to watch network television. The signal is so poor with digital tv, many times we have no news broadcast. Bring back analog!!!Nov 30th, 2014Someone from El Paso, TX writes:

Digital TV has done nothing but raise my bp to stroke level. Only thing that makes me cry in frustration on a daily basis. Couldn't get a voucher for a box in the first place, have bought two outright and both died. Now using a borrowed third unit. Planned obsolescence? Who in congress has ties to who produces these things? Get 3 out of 13 channels and getting ready to call TV quits. Are you listening congress? I won't be watching any of your big business buddies commercials or most importantly your reelection ads.REPORT COMMENTS

We can keep digital as a main service but then analog as a auxiliary service. An example of that would be in SF. They had anlog and digital service running at the same time since 1998 till 2009. Why can't we just do that. Analog can have less transmitting power than digital, if you know what I meanREPORT COMMENTS

My family and I can't afford cable or satellite, so we basically watch Netflix or movies we already own. I haven't watched the news in years, and my kids don't know what PBS is. I thought this digital TV switch was a bad idea from the start. I'll admit that when you get a picture, it looks great. But what good is that when you don't get any channels? Or when you have to stand beside the TV holding the antenna in place for the entire duration of a show? This is ridiculous. I really feel bad for those elderly people out there who are on a fixed income and can't afford cable or a good antenna. They barely get Social Security, don't you think they at least deserve free TV?!?! Bring analog back! I would rather watch a fuzzy show than no TV at all!REPORT COMMENTS

There is a lot of history to analog TV. My hometown is home to the longest standing Midwest station: WOWT 6. Digital is nice, but analog was actually reliable. 60 years on analog channel 6 gone for five years now. I miss being able to DX and try and pull in stations from long distances. Used to be able to get the Lincoln, NE stations (and cannot thanks to the transition). Here's your sign: IF IT ISN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT! Thank you.REPORT COMMENTS

With this new HD conversion you ether have perfect signal or NOTHING. It's not that i'm to poor to afford cable or satillite not that the big wigs care. I just don't want to pay for television when I only watch for 5 hours or less per week. This wasn't even put up for a vote...it was just enforced...REPORT COMMENTS

bring back reliable, dependable analog.. if it aint broke dont fix it! I remember being in the break room at work when we had the sept 11 attacks. we watched the news on a 13" portable tv with channel knobs and a single antenna (with aluminum foil) crystal clean picture and sound from transmitters 45 miles away.. Now if anything like sept 11 happens again, we wont know unless we have cable and a new tv.. no luck at home getting those distant channels with large outdoor antenna. have to depend on satellite and a clear sky.REPORT COMMENTS

I live in Flora Illinois. I have cable, the local channels go out almost every times it rains. I also don't like how cable companies can only carry one city or market. Sometimes I miss shows because the network programming is preempted for a local show. Like for example Channel 4 KMOV St. Louis, MO will have a cooking special sponsored by Dierbergs, instead of airing the regular CBS programming. In the past I could watch other CBS stations like channel 10 or 12. Since the laws have changed the cable system can't carry multiple local channels of the same network.REPORT COMMENTS

This was ill-conceived from the beginning and you people in Congress knew it. Digital will never surpass analog because it is prone to frequent interruptions due impart too atmospheric changes, static or a not near-perfect signal strength which is indeed the systems Achilles' heel. I didn't hear any mention when this digital jazz was being pushed on an unsuspecting misinformed public. This in relation to how useless all our analog devices would soon become. Yes, they are totally useless today. Millions of us suckers purchased LCD b&w Color pocket TVs and scores of other portable battery-operated TVs to take camping, or just watch a little tube outside in the backyard when in the mood. This love affair worked out great (no converter needed) until that digital monster render them all useless a.k.a junk. Millions of dollars were wasted purchasing all these state-of-the-art devices and nobody seemed to care. We the people lost far more than just our analog television on that day of days, we lost a huge part of our freedom too, when this was pushed on us without an explanation of why? Yes, even today people are asking that same question. Why this bandwidth changeover was needed? Seem to recall something about using the extra bandwidth for emergency stuff - police, fire? Etc Or was this just another way of trashing our dependable easy to receive television freedoms for keeps. Thus, forcing tens of millions of us to adopt those criminally expensive satellite and cable alternatives. Bet you people made billions forcing TV stations to upgrade to that far more expensive digital transmitter software jazz. We'll it didn't work for that expensive software sucks, I've seen the shameful picture quality that is 90% worse than analog ever was, on its worst days. Many others can bear witness to channels like RTV a.k.a (retroactive television) the video conversion stinks majorly 80% of the time. Can't even make out what I'm watching, an episode of (Moving on?) Or the freaking twilight in and out of zone. In the 70s we lived about 185 miles from the nearest big city, had a fairly good Channel Master antenna with an amplifier. This one time purchase made it possible for us to watch a lot of network programming. Granted picture quality was a bit snowy on some channels but, it was watchable. No damn freezing up, no damn blackouts, and most importantly of all, no little stupid display telling me I had no signal! Sure i signed this petition but, I doubt it's going to do any good, because our freedoms are eroding at an alarming rate presently! Thus, I doubt if any of these comments will ever be read by any of you in Congress....REPORT COMMENTS

People cannot afford luxury of having cableTV. My mom is living on social security and is unable to afford high cable bills. Even my bill is way too much and I just have the basic. Years ago it was so nice to be able to walk to your TV turn it on and have stations without cable companies high prices ( and you are forced more less now. either pay cable or have no TV. Don't the advertisers pay the stations by using commercials? I have had nothing but problems with the cable since receiving new receivers from my cable company last week. Now my bill will go up once again. Bring analog TV back!!!! All Americans should be able to have and watch TV. That has been an American past time since the TV was invented, .REPORT COMMENTS

One of analog TV's advantages was no signal loss during violent weather. I once used a converter box and it either said "NO SIGNAL/WEAK SIGNAL" or it said to rescan all channels. The audacity! In addition, Congress failed to explain the reason behind the switch to digital well enough. They claimed analog TV caused severe interference between radio and occupied a large amount of the bandwidth that was supposed to be used for the Valuable Broadcast Spectrum for public safety communications. I believe them requiring all high-power stations to switch was unconstitutional. I didn't experience any interference and I think DTV only weakened the Spectrum, causing more interference.REPORT COMMENTS
