I'm going to have no television soon as my cable provider switches to all digital and no analog..I don't care about having 800 channels or how many ever or see the difference between HD or a reg . TV. But i do believe it is my right to have information provided by the public broadcasting. I don't understand why the cost to watch TV is so much .I always assumed the advertisements .They run covered a percentage of the air Time . And may I add my digital TV sucks don't a picture half the time .And Chanels do not work

Despite the self-righteous rant from the Texan a few comments below, digital TV is a horrible replacement for analogue. Who cares about the quality of the signal when you can't change channels without the screen pixelating, not to mention the effort involved in finding a clear signal on the channel you were previously watching. Here's a shoutout to the government: Great Job! That is, if your efforts were to make television less watchable. And good thing I like Lester Holt because NBC is the only channel I don't have to jockey around in order to watch the news. In addition, I can't help but wonder why an espouser of digital is commenting on a sight designed for consumer complaints. I guess he's complaining about how good he has it. So here's another shoutout for the dude from Texas: Nice Job being an oxymoron! Go Netflix!

I agree. Digital TV SUCKS! The signal is weak and is constantly affected by the weather, including the amount of sunshine! This is preposterous. We used to receive local broadcast channels. Now we only receive 50% of what we used to get and 50% of that is constantly broken up. BRING BACK ANALOG. This was foisted upon us without our input!!

Why in the world would anyone want to bring back analog TV stations? I guess I should be thankful that in a nation of 300,000,000 only 359 people would request such a thing. We have had Digital Broadcasts for several years now, and STILL you folks here do not understand it? Over-The-Air digital TV uses the same radio signals that the older analog TV broadcasts did- your TV just uses a different tuner to decode the signal. It is still free. You can even use the same antenna. For our poorer citizens- used HDTVs, with the required ATSC digital tuner built in, are cheap and plentiful. And yes- hills, buildings, bad weather, distance, walls, large electrical stations- all this affects the quality of your TV reception...just like it did before. Along with streaming some channels over the Internet, we pull in our local stations, for free, using an antenna. We are a goodly distance from the broadcast location- but the picture quality is just stunning! If you folks are posting here, you obviously have access to a computer. You embrace one technology, but not another? Such inconsistence...

The reason why I want to bring back analog TV is that many people can't afford cable and they can't watch TV which makes them not up to date with news, politics, sports, and criminal watches. Cable and satellite company's scam us and make it so we spend all our money to just hear about what is happening across the street. Digital signals are so weak that nobody uses them anymore. Everybody uses Roku, but many people do not have wifi so that's not an option to them.

I understand allot of people, especially the older ones are having trouble with the analog to digital switch.... But just as a reminder that you can't just blame the government for this change..... it also has to do with the broadcasters that are making this conversion. My aunt has the same issue that allot of older people who grew up on analog TV. She's hoping that she passes before her analog TV is no longer able to work.

Hi, I totally agree with the other folks on here. I believe the switch to digital tv was completely idiotic. I live in a fairly rural area, but it's not too remote, and far from the big city. But ever since the switch was made I can't get hardly any channels. With analog I never had any issues. This mandate benefitted no one but cable companies, and the electronics companies that manufacture, and sell the converter boxes! Not to mention the fact that I've had to purchase 3 converter boxes now because they keep going bad after 6 months or so. And the boxes aren't cheap either. The last time I bought one it cost almost $70.00. And none the stores in my area even had any for sale,I had to get one online.I mean if you have to have one to watch television, they should be free. It's just ludicrous that that the government has forced people into how they receive their television reception. We should at the very least have the choice between digital and analog. Especially for those who live in remote, or rural areas that can't get any digital reception. Its just not fair that some people can't even have the simple ability to watch basic television, without paying an arm and a leg to cable companies. I doubt this post will do any good, but I just wanted to say my piece, and give my input on the matter.

We're forced to switch to digital tv with no apparent benefits for the consumer. Digital is like a coded signal which travels through the air. If any part of the signal gets broken or corrupted, you loose the program. There's separate video and audio which leave you a chance of an out of sync broadcast(lips moving with no sound). Or to loose one or both parts of the transmission(frozen picture or no sound). This being said, significantly decreases the range and reliability of service. Just look at all the people who could pick up analog(old simple technology) outside the digital signal. You are now at the mercy of the system provider. If want people to pay fine, give them something worth paying for. All this talk about digital tv being a better is just crap. If you want proof, look at the cable system we've had four years. I'm saying just give us a choice.

We can only receive local pbs channels here in rural Alabama. Before the switch we could pick up abc, cbs, and other channels. The switch only benefited two things, metropolitan areas and cable/satellite companies. However, a majority of city dwellers were already paying for tv, and if they weren't then they were already close enough to the reception source it didn't matter. I would like to know how many congressmen and government officials took money from these cable and satellite companies to put the dtv transition into practice. This is probably a fruitless endeavor but I have spoken my mind.

Digital TV is just one more horrible decision made for us by the rich Democrats we elected to represent us. Why the government has to have their hands in every aspect of our lives is beyond me. Analog television worked for everyone for generations. Now we are stuck with this digital signal that only works in metropolitan areas. I live in small rural town in North Central Kentucky and can't pick up hardly nothing 25 miles down the road no matter what kind antenna I buy. I wouldn't purchase cable even if I could afford it. That's really what the government wants is everyone to be on pay TV because they receive more tax dollars on pay TV . Maybe we can all come together and make them realize that there are still normal people in this country who can't afford unnecessary items like pay TV.

My husband and I had no tvs. Then when our tvs came into our lives, they were rabbit ears. The only cable box we ever had was in 2015. Like my daughter said, it lasted less than 2 months. I could never figure out how to use it. My husband would not touch it. He won't even use the remote control for the tv set. He complains there are to many buttons. He gets the remote messed up and our Daughter must fix it. He said don't bother with the remote, I am not going to use it any more. Now he goes up to the tv and presses buttons. If we are forced to purchase cable boxes, we will have 2 boxes in different rooms. Our daughter will be using both every night so we can watch tv. She already said she won't do that. We will pay for boxes and still get terrible service. Think about the older people, disabled, and people who can't afford the boxes. How will they use the boxes, who will help them, how will they pay for them, etc?

23 years with Cox Cable and nothing but problems. They could never figure out why the problems exist, only excuses. Now with a new cable cord and tv, cable problems are worse. No explanation why. But still must pay for the service. The last cable box I had lasted less than 2 months. It was to much trouble to use. I had to press extra buttons just to watch DVD and VHS. There was a total blackout of every station for 2 whole days. Nothing could be done. The other tv with no cable box was working fine. Yet we had to pay for the cable box that didn't work. Certain movies that have had no official release to VHS or DVD, that eventually come on TCM. How will I own them? I will not be able to record with VHS machines any more because of the cable boxes.

I can't believe my digital signals are now blocked by Cox cable. I have only internet with them and I just spend $1,200 for a Smart TV. I also purchased an antenna. Now they say I have to buy a decoder box for every TV set. I can't afford this as I am on Social Security. I need live TV, the news is very important to me and also my retro shows.

My concerns are much greater than the statements made in the original petition because the free digital signals being broadcast over the air can be easily picked up with the proper receiver (inexpensive or free with the coupon), thus rendering their concern as being insignificant. I want analog signals to be broadcast again (not only over the air, but through the wires) for some real LOGICAL reasons. Digital TV broadcasts are extremely inferior to analog because of a few simple points: Digital signals are compressed/decompressed, often many times, resulting in compression noise - digital artefacts and blocky images, especially during high motion. Analog signals are not compressed (they can't be compressed) so they are capable of delivering perfect, FULL-QUALITY picture & sound with no inherent distortions. Digital signals completely fail when even the SLIGHTEST interference or interruption happens. The data stream gets temporarily "lost" which results in a lost picture and/or sound, or sometimes a severely scrambled signal. Analog will only encounter wavy lines or "snow" on the screen, but the signal does not get completely lost as what happens to a digital signal. The only way to get a MOSTLY clear digital signal is to pay more money to get special equipment AND a boost in signal quality (720p and 1080p packages). The image quality is still inferior to that of an analog signal and the pitfalls of interruptions / loss of signal still remain. These reasons provide for a solid case against any and all entities involved with the cessation of analog signal broadcasting, including the FCC. A class action lawsuit of this magnitude would financially cripple all of the television networks, which I'm sure you would want to avoid. But if our government won't fix the issues that are wrong, we the people will file a class action lawsuit... And then you'll wish you had taken this petition seriously!
