As the wealthiest nation on earth and the most privileged people in history, we Americans can and should do much more to help not only the hundreds of thousands of refugees, God bless them, but also the countries that are shouldering so much of the burden to house and care for them currently. Allowing more into our country is the right thing to do on every level. I firmly believe that we can do more, and that it is our obligation and our great fortune to open our arms to these very needy people.REPORT COMMENTS

Our actions are the among the causes of unrest in the Middle East. If we are to encourage democracy, we have to assist the masses displaced during the conflicts that result either from our actions or that result from citizens rising up for their rights. Refugees are not criminals; they have no other choice but to leave or be killed. We can't expect Europe to shoulder this burden and 10,000 refugees isn't much of a commitment on our part. Let's allow Americans to show compassion for these families.REPORT COMMENTS

I can?t understand why the US in general and Nebraska in particular does not take in more Syrian refugees. I have a friend who is trying to start a restaurant, but with our labor shortage he keeps losing employees to better paying jobs. Nebraska has a proud history of taking in refugees and making it work for everyone. I understand that the process takes a while given the need to screen out nefarious characters, but I wonder if you could fast-track families with small children. Whenever I fly with my nine-year-old daughter we?re allowed to breeze through security, and I?m confident that?s based on solid data. As I?m sure lots of parents can attest, the crazy stuff pretty much stops when you?re responsible for little ones. I think there should be a fast-track to the US?call it the Aylan Kurdi Family Resettlement Program?to get families out of European train stations and into Nebraska jobs and schools.REPORT COMMENTS

As a former refugee of the Vietnam War conflict, my heart cries out for all the Syrians and refugees in the world. I understand the hardships and sorrows they face. I can't even watch the news without crying. As a great nation, I think the United States can do better than Germany.REPORT COMMENTS

Please bring more then 10,000 if Europe is taking 20,000 we are larger and could help support even more. The 3 year old boy who washed up onto the shore was the biggest wake up call.REPORT COMMENTS

Amerina, supposedly the nelting pot symbolized by the Statue of Liberty and Emma Lazarus' words welcoming strangers to our shores, simply must dramaticslly increase the number of Syrian refugees we take in. We should be leading the humaritarian crisis, not lagging behind Germany, turkey and a gandful of European nations. Thes people have suffered enough at the. Hands of both Assad and Isis. Let us live up to our nation's values. Is this not after all a nation of Immigrants??,REPORT COMMENTS
