If the argument for not allowing Syrian refugees into this country is that it puts American lives at risk, then I have one thing to say: I'd rather risk my life than my humanity.

If we are indeed a Great Nation, we should have and exhibit the amount of critical thinking, compassion, and expertise to create accurate, legitimate, and unprejudiced criteria for allowing Syrian refugees to find safety in this country. I AM ASHAMED of the recent decision by Congress. I AM ABSOLUTELY ASHAMED OF YOU! God help you. Many of you claim this nation to be a Christian nation. Well I say you only deem it as such in a political, rhetorical sense, not in the sense of the heart. I am a Christian, and I AM ASHAMED OF YOU! If we allow Syrian refugees in this country and we become a part of their daily lives, exactly how can they be a danger to us? You are feeding into the hatred and fear of ISIS, and, are no better, if you cannot exhibit compassion and critical thinking into your decisions. I do not want you leading me if you lead in fear and not in wisdom.

If the situation were reversed, we would hope that others would show us the same compassion. That we would not be turned away for fear that a few of us were "bad". It is a risk we as humanity must take, for the consequences of denying people are far greater.

Please allow these refugees to enter the US. We can assimilate them far better than most European countries. If we treat them as discardable they will become our enemies. Did we learn nothing from WWII? It is in our own best interest to treat refugees humanely.

In the United States, we have the ability to integrate people into our culture. For instance, I've been tutoring ESL to an adult refuge. I can assure you that these adult refuge students want to be here, they want to improve their situation and they want a safe place to live with their family.

These are human beings with lives, love, fear, pain, and thoughts of their own. They deserve to have a safe place to go.Do not let fear and selfishness blind you to true compassion and grace.

I have the privilege of working with refugees from all over the world, including Iraq and Syria, who are in desperate need of medical care. Their resilience and gratitude are the most inspiring and "American" attributes a person can have. We are lucky to share our home with them. Please allow more people in need to seek safe refuge from terrible situations. It is our moral and civic duty, as those who have so much to share.

Please continue to stand up for the values upon which our nation was founded, particularly during this holiday season. Allow the Syrian refugees to find solace here; our country will only be the better for it.

If the USA is going to contribute weapons and soldiers to keep the fight rolling, then the USA has an obligation to get the innocent people out of the crossfire. These are human beings with lives, love, fear, pain, and thoughts of their own. They deserve to have a safe place to go.

We need to protect ourselves as Americans but we also should be compassionate to the innocent Syrian refugees. Please let the homeless, countryless, Islamic refugees merciful admission to West Virginia and the United States of America.

We should allow refuge to those looking for a safe place. In 1939 the US refused Jewish refugees let us not make such a heinous mistake again.

Please allow Syrian refugees into the US and into my home state of TN. It is easy to allow fear to dictate our choices. Let us not allow fear to stop us from welcoming our neighbors who are displaced. We are all in this together.
