Add Afghanistan to the list of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) Countries

Esteemed members of Congress:

Afghanistan is experiencing a grave humanitarian crisis of vast proportions. It is our moral obligation as US citizens and residents to provide protection to the courageous Afghan women and men who share our values and vision for a free society and are already being targeted directly by the Taliban.

The US Special Immigration Visa program provides support to those who directly assisted US troops and organizations. But it is limited in scope and administratively laborious. Getting Afghans out of Afghanistan requires urgent action now.

Afghanistan meets all the criteria outlined for Temporary Protected Status - it is experiencing ongoing conflict and is experiencing 'other extraordinary and temporary conditions'. The Secretary of Homeland Security, Mr Alejandro N. Mayorkas, may designate a foreign country for TPS due to conditions in the country that temporarily prevent the country's nationals from returning safely.

Granting Afghanistan TPS status is a matter of great urgency and would protect thousands of Afghans who bravely and consistently supported our mission in the country, often at great personal sacrifice to themselves and their families. Your support, bringing the issue to Mr Mayorkas' attention, is invaluable in this matter.

Many thanks for your time and consideration.
