A Voice for the Voiceless
Within our population are a community of the disabled who are stricken with a severe persistent mental illness. Many can not articulate nor advocate for themselves. A physician has determined that they require 24 hours staff supervised care in order to live in the community, or otherwise they would be institutionalized or become homeless. They can not cook for themselves, remember to take their medication or perform the basic activities of living without reminders and assistance. The government only allocates $430.30 per month for the “Personal Care Home Supplement”. Combining this amount to their SSI Check only affords them the ability to pay $37 per day for 24 care. This injustice needs to be remedied now! Please raise the PERSONAL CARE HOME SUPPLEMENT to a sustainable level and prevent these individuals from becoming homeless! May God bless your hearts to do the humane thing for the least of us.
