Children Are Languishing in Foster Care

States aren't following The Adoption Safe Families Act

Children in Foster Care need Permanency in a timely fashion!

Why are there 108,000 foster children still in the system after 2 years?

Why are there 20,000 children still in foster care after 5 years?

The answer?.

Agencies and Courts aren?t following federal law:

The Adoption Safe Families Act of 1997 requires agencies to file for termination of parental rights if a child has been in foster care for 15 out of 22 consecutive months. But agencies and courts across the US routinely ignore this federal statute, because there aren?t any ramifications if they don?t follow it. Thus children are languishing in foster care without permanency for many years, even though there are families, who are willing to adopt them.

Following federal law should not be optional!

Children in the system, who have been neglected, abused or traumatized need permanency to heal and thrive. They need supportive, stable relationships with a loving and responsive family who will protect and support them. They should not be sent back to abusive homes. Over 1/3 of all foster children who are returned to biological families are abused again. That means 46,000 children are suffering right now!

The system MUST stop favoring the rights of adults over innocent children.

Federal Government: We are asking you to enforce the law that you have created. Make states accountable, when children languish for years in foster care!
