I believe that the transport, slaughter and eating of horse meat should be illegal. Horses are companion animals, just like cats and dogs. Would you eat your pets?REPORT COMMENTS

Horses As with all animals should be free and protected and never harmed nor slaughtered. That is not the world we live in but it does not mean this can not change. People need to be the Voice to change the barbaric practices of past and present and to be the protectors of these majestic horses..Horse slaughter is wrong in anyform and should stop! People should work towards becoming Vegatarians and this will hit the Meat Mongers in the Pocket big time and help stop and shut down slaughter houses everywhere.REPORT COMMENTS

These wonderful beings are our native survivors! Let us take care of them and let them run free in their high spirit and pride on this wonderful planet. Let their beauty sustain us in our times of hatred and war.REPORT COMMENTS

The way these horses are treated and transported after being bought by kill buyers is tantamount to the treatment people received at the hands of the Nazis. They are forced into trucks and trailers that are already far beyond the acceptable capacity limits and are not fed or given water for the entire trip to Canada or Mexico. Many of them arrive at their kill destination dead or seriously injured and maimed, and then forced into the kill pens and left. The methods used to kill horses rarely result in quick, painless deaths, as horses often endure repeated blows to render them unconscious and sometimes remain conscious during the slaughtering process. When horse slaughter plants previously operated in the U.S., the USDA documented severe injuries to horses in the slaughter pipeline, including broken bones and eyeballs hanging from a thread of skin. I would very much like to see the leaders of this state pass a law that makes it illegal, in this state, to sell or transport any horse for human consumption. That if caught the people buying and transporting them, as well as whatever company or individual employed them, would be heavily fined, the horses and their personal property confiscated. The fines and the property sold should be used to finance the upkeep and placement of the horses. Some of them will have to be put down just for humanitarian reasons as a result of the injuries and treatment received while in transport, but at least it can be done humanely at that point. There are many groups out there willing to help in this effort. Many of these horses have been rescued by shelters such as Last Chance Ranch in Quakertown and are currently on active duty in the Philadelphia Police Department. Many of these horses have been rescued from kill buyers, re-trained and put into service. They are show horses, horses trained for sports, recreational horses and some are just pets that were privately owned and stolen. They serve admirably and well despite having been so abominably betrayed by the very humans who domesticated them and said they were untrainable. Leaving aside the emotional issues, horsemeat is toxic to humans. So why are doing this?? Have we sunk this low? Are we a third world country with no moral values? Please say that you will not only vote to end this but also sponsor legislation to end it.REPORT COMMENTS
