I lost my husband to leukemia when I was 27. It wasn't just my grief I had to deal with but also that of my two children. They needed comfort and reassurance that they weren't loosing Mommy too. Please make the humane choice for families & extend FMLA to cover time off to grieve for a child or a spouse. We're not asking for pay; just time to deal with arrangments and grief for the family. -

I had a very close friend go threw this as well. Her son had just passed away from SIDS. Her husband couldn't take the loss of his son so he committed suicide by drinking Draino. She found him while still alive ..all the while being 6 months pregnant with her second child. FMLA should cover grievance of any close family member ( child, parent, spouse) the same as they do if that said family member is sick. I am sorry for your loss. I hope this gets passed.REPORT COMMENTS

The same thing happened to me and while dealing with the hardest thing in my life.. I had to function occupationally. It was too difficult unnecessarily.REPORT COMMENTS

I could not imagine the pain of such a loss. People need to grieve without fear of losing their jobs.REPORT COMMENTS

I did not lose my husband to suicide, however, the feelings ARE the same. After reading this post, I dont feel so crazy. After 12 years together, my husband was 32 and killed in an auto accident. I never thought I would be widowed,my world has been turned upside down, some days I just want to cry. I am finding it very hard to go to work, I have made it one full day and it has been a little over a month. But when everything slows down after funeral arrangements and everyone coming over. Now is when it is hitting the hardest as life will never be the same. I feel like I am going to have a mental breakdown at any moment. I'm trying to fix myself right now and it's hard to do when you are trying to take care of your kids needs and feeling of losing their dad. Worrying about losing your job should not be added to all the pain and hurt you are already suffering.REPORT COMMENTS
