My husband was KILLED in a motorcycle accident. Someone ran into him and another car was kind enough to come and RUN him over AND KEPT GOING!!! I have been with him sense I'm 13 years old and I am now 58. This just happened 6/20/2013. Not only do I think a bill should be passed for spouses, but I think they should be PAID. Even if it's only 2 to 4 weeks. I don't ask for much but when your world and heart stops as quickly as the day it began you NEED time to breath again. You NEED time to sort things out. There are NO words for a sudden death like this. I truly hope someone finds some compassion to help.

Hope this is still active. Saw where petition began 2012. I just found! Lost my first husban of 25yrs. Begot two daughters and at the time had first grand child.I fought by his side for 11/2yrs. trying to beat his cancer. 9 months of that time I can count on one hand wasn't 24/7. We lost the fight. I sometimes feel I was on the frontlines of a war seeing not just his struggle but being aware of all the families we came to know at the cancer hospital and the confined community of refugees who are forced to live in apartments provided by landlords who so graciously provide at low rates for cancer patients who traveled afar to recieve care

I think this petition should not only include spouses but immediate family members. I too experienced loss at a young age of my spouse and mother and was given 3 days of bereavement leave and had to return to work or use any vacation time i had. I eventually resigned from my job after being employed 10 years due to overwhelming grief i was not able to do my job effectively
