If the Senate genuinely stands for democracy, here and throughout the world, it will kill this amendment. NSF funded projects in political science have been critical in helping students, publics and policymakers everywhere to understand what democracy means. Cut them to save a handful of dollars and you undermine democracy's mission and further weaken our international standing.

We're becoming more like our enemies with these repressive measures. What's next? Quashing of scientific inquiry? Will we have book burnings?

A country that does not support social science research cannot call itself a land of either culture or science!

Although I would appreciate more funding going to the natural sciences, the defunding of the social sciences sets a dangerous precedent.

We need scientific research into political science to understand changes in policy and countries.

Do not delay scientific progress. Political scientists have made vast advancements for the U.S. military, peace treaty agreements, economic gains, and so much more.

With these "friends" in the Congress of the United States, who wish to cut funding in sciences - including social and political sciences - the American people need no enemies.
