It is this type of short-sightedness, inattention to and neglect of the interests of the vast majority of Americans that leads people to feel alienated from government, which generates apathy. Early this year, for the first time I received the ACS survey and eagerly filled it out. As a sociologist, I have used data collected from the survey in different sociology classes. This is a way to provide demographic descriptions of the population. It is disturbing that House Republicans apparently do not want the general public to know characteristics about their fellow citizens. What ever happened to the adage "knowledge is power"?
