I've not been able to sell a horse in the past 4 years. That is what I do for a living. I have great stock and no takers. It is disheartening.REPORT COMMENTS

As an owner/breeder and avid horse lover, I would rather see a quick, humane, and meaningful death for an animal than the current abandonment, starvation, and torture we are currently seeing now. Every industry MUST have it's bottom market to stabalize the industry as a whole. The elimination of this bottom market in addition to the impact of a bad economy has facilitated people who otherwise would NEVER have the financial means to acquire a horse to access them far too easily. These people are ignorant of the proper care that a horse requires and since they get the "cheap" or free, they see no point in putting forth the effort to learn.REPORT COMMENTS

Domestic horse management necessitates the management of humane end-of-life options, and a well managed and regulated horse slaughter program is, unfortunately, a necessary option of this life-cycle management.REPORT COMMENTS

I as i horse owner of over 40 years have seen the horses industry go down in the last few years. Also every year I see with my own 2 eyes 100's of horses who are starving and nobody cares and I am only 1 person and can not help them all but if horse slaughter was legel again at least these horses would not have to suffer for months waiting for there body to just shut down. I am sure they would rather have someone shoot them and put them out of the pain off feeling hungry and having your organs stop working one by one. signed a TRUE horse lover. The welfare of our horses depends on a humane end of life option of horse slaughter. As a life long horse person myself I see the need for horse slaughter. Please do not let animal rights organizations with big pocket books tell you what is necessary. Please make decisions based on facts and research not emotion.REPORT COMMENTS

It's too bad the educated people in DC were overruled by the larger group who's vote was skewed by the promises of the uneducated (as to the outcome of HSUS', other self-rightous groups & private individuals) and lots & lots of money. NO thought for the welfare of the horse. US slaughter offers the solution at no cost to the tax payer or the government.REPORT COMMENTS

The United States desperatly needs a humane avenue to dispose of sick, injured, unuseful and unwanted animals. Shipping out of the country is NOT humane nor is it an option for some.REPORT COMMENTS
