I will soon be homeless because of a defaulted student loan. Think about that. Everything I own will be thrown in the garbage, my whole life. College ruined my life, I never had a chance.REPORT COMMENTS

It is time to end this rapacious system, one that is destroying lives. No other personal debt in American history has the lack of what we now call consumer protection that student loan borrowers have to endure. Congress should not only restore bankruptcy protection, but investigate the nearly 4 decades of "profit over responsible" lending practices of banks & other financial institutions who have profited greatly from this arrangement. If you truly care about the future of education in America, then you have 1.4 trillion reasons to act.REPORT COMMENTS

As a 46 year old RN, BSN I help people recover from injuries and diseases. I help those suffering with cancer from the side effects of chemo. I grieve with patients and families when news is bad. I share joy and hope when news is good. While caring for others, I live everyday knowing that if I myself get temporarily sick or injured and am unable to work I will not be able to pay my private student loan payments. I changed careers at the age of 40 to become a nurse to help others. I'm still hoping it was worth the sacrifice. Please pass this bill and help me continue to help others.REPORT COMMENTS

If you all don't pass this law (and similar ones), we will seek to strike the current law as unconstitutional. Student loans are a good thing in principle but they are currently very flawed. I do not understand why one can't refinance the interest rate!REPORT COMMENTS

All members of congress must educate themselves on the predatory nature of what the education loan system has become. Millions of American lives are ruined to enrich a few modern day robber barons. Institute a TERRP ( Troubled Education Relief and Reform Program ). Education loan predatory practices are a national disgrace. If we can institute a TARP ( Troubled Asset Relief Program ) for banks and businesses, as a country we can institute a TERRP and do so in quick fashion.REPORT COMMENTS

It is ridiculous that this country can afford to pay for expensive and unnecessary wars, but it is not willing to allocate enough money so college students can get a free education.REPORT COMMENTS

Restore our constitutional right to bankruptcy and return the student loan program to its original purpose to help students get a college education - not enrich the student loan corporations' shareholders and executives!REPORT COMMENTS
