I have small children, they spend anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour on the bus everyday. Sitting in a HOT car for just 5 minutes is almost unbearable. I would like to see the beginning of the year pushed back. I want to keep my babies safe and being a single mom of 4 kids the bus is the only way to get them to school.

I'm 58yrs old. I'm overweight, I take thyroid meds, blood pressure, citalopram, klonopin, metforming 1500mg.a day I am one who has a very hard time dealing with the heat. There have been many times I have felt sick to my stomach and have almost passed out. By the time I get back to the bus compound. I can't stand or walk bc I'm so over heated. We need AC's. The children would be better behaved if they were comfortable. They would stay seated better too. They stand to catch the breeze as we drive. It's a constant battle to get them to stay in there seat and sitting down. It provokes arguments and referral's. Thus keeping us distracted from the road and traffic conditions. Then you add our feeling week and sickly. It's a bad situation for all concerned. Safety is not at it optimal performance. I work in Clay county Florida. Small county, growing fast. I hope this makes it through, and closes that loop hole. Sincerely, Barbara Roettele

The fact that I found this site for OSHA looking for someone to over see school bus safety besides the good mechanical functioning and emission control which DOT (dept of transportation) oversees along with 700 a 800 other letters indicates that there is a problem. There is no watch dog for this problem. I am a bus driver for 15 years. I have worked for three bus company's. I do work summers. All too often I am forced to drive a bus with no A/C. I tell the administrative workers, the school or camp I am driving for is aware of it and nothing is done and we don't have anyone to help us. We provide an amazing service for someone's most precious thing: their child. Why are we treated as if we don't count? I am given a bus with no A/c and the safety person shows up with it blasting away. We are and are job is worth so much more than this.

My 5 yr old son just suffered from heat exhaustion today 6-30-15. He was on the bus for an hour although his school is literally 5 minutes away from our home. I am so thankful that he wasnt seriously injured or in need of immediate medical attention. These buses need proper cooling and ventilation not only for the children but also for the drivers. I will be contacting anyone and everyone that i can to fix this dispicable situation.

I am a school bus driver in NJ, I am also over 60 years old. As bus drivers we are expected to drive these hot boxes in temperatures well over 90 degrees with no air conditioning . No thought is given to me or the students on board in heat that is not only dangerous but but causes extreme health risks to the driver and the students. No water is supplied , no training is given to us on how to treat heat related illnesses. As far as cleaning and disenfecting the buses, that is totally nonexistent . We have every right to be protected under OSHA regulations. We have fallen through the cracks far to long. Help us to do our jobs properly and safely. Every school bus should be air conditioned . The administrators sit in cool air conditioned offices while we drive these children in intolerable heat . Your attention to this matter will certainly help employees and the children under our care .

I'm a school bus driver in South Carolina. It is ridiculous that school buses are not covered by OSHA. The driver and children riding the school buses are in danger of suffering from various heat stress ailments.
