My son is non verbal autistic and a documented medical condition that’s on his IEP that it’s a necessity for him to be on a bus with working AC. Since 7/2 I have been calling the Logan school bus company in the Bronx and the Office of Pupil Transportation every morning every afternoon, I have numerous complaint numbers. My son has been riding in the bus with no AC coming out of that bus with hives all over and hot to the touch and I have to give him Benadryl because he’s so uncomfortable and still no change. Not that I’m comparing these kids to animals but if an animal is in a heated car the owner goes to jail for animal cruelty. This is cruel and who’s taking accountability for the pain and suffering that these kids are enduring? -

The little ones suffer the most as the plastic seats heat up but the little ones are required to sit before we leave. It has been so hot on those seats that it is impossible to get them to sit and relax. A 56 year old school bus driver. I am a school bus driver. I've been driving so long that I'm now driving children of former children I had the privilege of hauling and watching grow up. Something has to be done with these buses. Air conditioning or something to circulate the air on a bus. I've recorded temperatures on my bus before of up to 112 degrees. On hot summer days when school first starts and the humidity is high, if it's 95 degrees outside you can count on it being 10 to 20 degrees hotter on that bus. My smaller children get sick, sweat profusely and usually fall asleep before I can get them home from heat exhaustion. I have a hard time waking them when I get to their stop. I've always told my children to bring a water bottle and fill it up before coming to the bus even though there is a rule of no drinking on the bus. These children have to stay hydrated. I signed the petition and I hope it helps before something happens.REPORT COMMENTS

It’s very sad that anyone should have to deal with no ac!! I drive a public transportation bus 8 and 9 hours a day here in southern Oklahoma. A lot of my passengers are elderly and of course some are infants. A lot of people depend on public transportation. It scares me to see these people exit the bus after being on for sometimes, 30 to 40 minutes. Their faces are just beet red and a lot of times they’re sweating. profusely!! These vehicles are all glass with those vent windows up high. They basically let air out, without letting absolutely no airflow in. Very hot!! For example, I recently put a personal indoor thermometer in my vehicle. My phone will show 95°, and the thermometer will always be about 6 to 8 degrees hotter. It’s no different in those school buses. Some of these elderly could be your parents. Well to do families that simply can’t get their loved one to the dr without public transportation. I’m almost 59 years old myself and believe me, it takes everything I have to make it through each day. This is crazy. My child came from a field trip at day care. The school bus they drove didn't have air. It was 104 degrees today. My child came home tired, nauseated and said the bus was so hot it made her sick. I'm going to facility tomorrow to complain. This is ridiculous that there are no regs on air for buses. If I would of known that school buses are not required to have air working I would not have let her go on trip.REPORT COMMENTS

It is HOT in Texas - period! Our summer weather seems to last a little longer than other states. We are a VERY small district & only have 2 busses w/AC & they are not used for routes. We do have 1 AC handicap. No AC is a safety issue for the kids AND driver. We have kids that get on the bus straight out of athletics & have to ride about an hour in a hot bus. What if a driver has a heat stroke during the route? Something needs to be done, especially for those small districts that can’t afford to replace their buses.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a school bus driver and being on that bus for 3 hours at a time without AC is torture. Yes, I chose this career, but I did because it is a rewarding job and I love it! I was a driver in Illinois 15 years ago, and the little bit of heat wasn't bad. But down here in Florida is terrible! I have one kindergartener that is on the bus for 40 minutes in the morning and in the afternoon. The rest of the kids are on the bus anywhere from 15 minutes to 25 minutes. The kindergartener falls asleep on the way home almost every day. He is exhausted and so am I. My daughter is a bus rider, but thankfully she is only on the bus for about 5 to 10 minutes. Will it take another case of heat stroke or death for the Florida Department of Education to make the 2012 REQUIRED air conditioning changes on all school buses? A parent can be judged negligent and jailed for leaving a child in a hot car. But our children are being left on buses during thunder and lightning storms, according to dismissal procedures, without the benefit of open windows or proper air conditioning. The first week of school 2017, Lee County dismissal was halted for over two hours. The temperatures soared inside the buses. My daughter came home beet faced with hair and clothing soaked. My three-year-old has heat stroke from being on a bus with the bus driver and aid and told that she was not allowed to roll down the windows because the kids might throw something out the windows or put their hands out the windows mind you my three-year-old and all the rest of the 3 yr olds are fastened into seat belts. I live in east tx, both my daughters ride the bus home. Here the temperatures rise too and the fact that its hot and humid with no air running makes it worse for our children to ride the bus home. Ive watched both my daughters get off the bus sweating and my oldest had to be rushed to the hospital afterwards due to a heat stroke!!! My children dont have to be going thru any if this nor should any child!!! I spoke to the superintendent and obviously didnt give a crap since shes not his child!!! I am beyond furious at this point!!! Something needs to be done!!! I pay my taxes on time and my children have every right to ride a school bus equipped with a/c!!! What are you waiting for to act!?! For a child to die of a heat stroke!!!??? Why dont you ride the bus in these weathers and then come back to us with a better response as to why school busses dont have air!!! My sons ride a public school bus in the East Baton Rouge Public School System the heat index is well above 100 in September. Ona bus the temperatures are higher than the 90+ that it is outside. My children are drenched in sweat when they exit the bus and they are so thirsty and sometimes say their head hurts. I am appalled at the care our children receive on a bus, as well as the bus driver. This is unacceptable! I drive a school bus. During the warmer months it is regularly over 100 degrees on my bus. It's bad for the kids, who are on the bus for about 30 minutes, but I am on the bus for two and a half hours. I personally have suffered from heat related illness as a result of the heat on my bus. I need to be mentally sharp to keep everybody safe, it is hard to do be mentally sharp with heat exhaustion. It isn't just a comfort issue, it is a safety issue!REPORT COMMENTS
