In my state Novolog insulin costs have increased by 20% for 2017, for a drug that is now 16 1/2 years old. I'll have to look into cutting the food budget - again - this year to accommodate this pricing increase. I'm a registered nurse making almost $100,000/year. Before you dismiss me, if I can barely afford to keep my child alive, what are other Type One diabetics doing - not just their parents, but young people starting out, middle income people, elderly people doing to stay alive? Do you wonder how much pharmacy benefit managers are enriching themselves because of my determination to keep my daughter alive? -

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 2 years ago as a result of having asthma and needing to take prednisone. In other words, I have asthma medication related diabetes. I have been taking Lantus to control this. If you make this drug unaffordable it will greatly impact my health and lead to losing my employment which supports myself and my family. So you see, you are impacting many people not just the diabetic when raising prices for massive profits. Some members of the country have become very money focused to the point of being senseless. I say this because pricing a drug so high it is not affordable lead to people suffering needless and everyday someone else dies from complications because there is a man made barrier to maintaining quality health. Please consider if this were you or one of your loved ones, would you want them to die when help is right there but unreachable. We need more compassion and responsible people in this country who work for the good of all, not just the good for some.REPORT COMMENTS

How much do you think the members of Congress and other government employees have to pay for Insulin for themselves or their loved ones? I would bet it's a lot less then you pay. There is a them and there is the rest of us. This must be stopped! President-Elect Trump and Congress must act!REPORT COMMENTS

We type 2 diabetics become insulin dependent also. When I first started taking insulin it was 35 dollars a vial that was more than twenty years ago. It now costs at least 250 dollars a vial and there is no good explanation for it. I am now taking two different insulins. Diabetes runs in my family. This is the only medication that continually increases unlike other medications that usually goes down in costs.REPORT COMMENTS

Please lower the cost of insulin. I have to pay over $550.00 a month on insulin with insurance for me and my son. This is completely unfair and it needs to stop. Money hungry insulin companies such as Lilly and Sanofi are profiting from sick people who can die without this medication. They keep re-patenting insulin "to make changes in insulin to make it better" when in reality they are only re-patenting it so they are a monopoly and can charge what they want for it. This is a shame and it needs to stop. The inventor of insulin never meant for the cost of insulin to not be affordable..."Banting, Macleod, and the rest of the team patented their insulin extract but gave away all their rights to the University of Toronto, which would later use the income from insulin to fund new research. Discovering insulin could have made Banting very rich, but he decided to give the patent away for free. He wanted insulin to be available to everyone, not held out of reach at exorbitant prices. Unfortunately his wishes that the cost be controlled and low has now changed."REPORT COMMENTS

Please work at lowering the costs of insulin. I am 63 and DM type 2. I can barely afford insurance premiums. Why the markup over the past 10 years. The Pharmaceutical companies need to give us a break. I am changing insurance companies 1 January 2017 because I can no longer pay their premium. I am scared to death. It should be noted that I am on a state sponsored medical plan. If they dump this - I will be totally at a loss.REPORT COMMENTS

Please do the humanitarian thing and make life-saving insulin affordable and easily available for Type 1 Diabetes. It is truly shameful in a civilized nation that drug companies can profit this way off people with life-threatening, chronic illnesses.REPORT COMMENTS

I am an insulin dependant Type 2 diabetic. I cannot afford my insulin. I already have gastroparesis, diabetic neuropathy, and skin problems. I can look forward to lower limb amputation or blindness or kidney failure or a myriad of other problems. The cost of insulin in this country is absolutely reprehensible. I don't know what kind of mark up is on insulin but it is FAR more than the manufacturers need. Greed is clearly the winner. People should not be allowed to make this kind of profit from human suffering.REPORT COMMENTS

The original patent for insulin was sold by a humanitarian for $1. This was intended to make it available and affordable to everyone. Now the costs for life saving insulin continues to rise. Why? Children and adults will literally die without access to affordable insulin. Some people are only dosing every ever or every third day and they are gambling with their life because they cannot afford it. This needs to stop. Please help us.REPORT COMMENTS

The divide between the haves and have-nots is getting worse really, really fast. In 1980, the top 1 percent controlled about 8 percent of U.S. national income. The bottom 50 percent shared about 18 percent. Today the top 1 percent share about 20 percent; the bottom 50 percent, just 12 percent. But the problem isn?t that we have inequality. Some inequality is intrinsic to any high-functioning capitalist economy. The problem is that inequality is at historically high levels and getting worse every day. Our country is rapidly becoming less a capitalist society and more a feudal society. Unless our policies change dramatically, the middle class will disappear, and we will be back to late 18th-century France. Before the revolution. " -- I bought a pitchfork today....REPORT COMMENTS
