Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed at a young age. It's not brought about by poor diet, lack of exercise, etc. I've seen the price of insulin skyrocket over the past 25 years since I was diagnosed with diabetes. It's becoming way too heavy a burden for the common man/woman to carry for his/her children and self. Something must be done to get these prices back under control.

My Mom is 80 years old and can't afford the raising costs of insulin. It costs her thousands of dollars each year even with Highmark insurance. And I'm sure with the Republicans already trying to cut healthcare in this country it will only get worse for her!! We need better more responsible leaders in Washington to stop these tyrants!!

I too am diabetic on disability. I want to live and manage my diabetes optimally. Please help cut back costs on insulin. It is true my a life saving drug and unconscionable pharm. Companies take advantage. They already have the monopoly.

I've had type 1 diabetes for 37 years and the only light I see at the end of the tunnel is a fast moving train heading straight for me. It's bad enough that diabetes causes all sorts of medical problems, has cost me multiple jobs, and has effected all my personal relationships, but for the past few years the price of insulin (even with health insurance) has forced me to pick between buying meds or groceries, paying bills, etc... At this point in my life I look forward to death, after all, I can't afford to live and I have nothing left to sell. It's illegal for gas companiesl to price gouge during a natural disaster, why is it legal for drug companies to price gouge when it comes to medication that means life or death for people? Something needs to be done about the skyrocketing price of medication that is a necessity to live.

I am on Medicare with social security so I can not afford the cost of insulin on the limited income from social security. Victoza pen alone is $3737.28 for 3 month supply and Lantus is $13.00 for three month supply besides all the other meds. note that these drugs have risen more and more instead of decreasing as time goes by. Even is I was still working, it was still extremely high amount that I was paying.

I too have a child, now adult, who needs daily insulin. The inflated pricing of insulin is, frankly, criminal. People with Type 1 need it to stay alive, and they often find it difficult or impossible to find affordable health insurance plans to help defray the outrageous costs. Enough. It truly is time we put a stop to this!

USA citizens should be dying or suffering because they are unable to obtain insulin due to the cost. Imagine knowing there is effective treatment, but only for those who can afford it. Just out off reach. Even with insurance, many of us with diabetes go without our treatment for one reason...money. that is disgraceful.

My daughter was diagnosed type 1 in August of last year. The financial toll has been tremendous. We make *just enough* to not qualify for any help, and our past budgeting for savings and a middle class lifestyle is now gone (as is our savings) and the strain is, like I said, immense. It is also incredibly unfair to take a medically necessary (and inexpensive) product and hold an entire group hostage with price gauging. ENOUGH.

I read an editorial on page 112 of "The Journal of the American Medical Assocation", dated July 12, 1941, that said that in 1925, a 10 cc, 40 unit vial of insulin sold for $2.40. In 1931, it sold for $2. In 1941, the insulin sold for 57 cents per vial. This reduction was accomplished despite a 60 percent increase in the cost of glands (from animals used to make insulin) since 1925. This article stated that in March of 1941, the Department of Justice charged the three manufacturers of insulin in the United States with price fixing, in violation of the Sherman Act. This action was terminated by pleas of nolo contendere, and large fines were levied against the manufacturers and their principal officers. Today, the same price fixing is going on, only this time the price of insulin far exceeds the price in 1941.

As a Type One diabetic for 40 years, I require insulin to stay alive. The insulin I need costs me $140 per bottle, which lasts me a bit less than a month, and that's WITH health insurance I pay about $400/month for. I've seen the price of insulin go up over 300% just in the past few years, which is unacceptable and unnecessary. This is not for a newly developed drug, but one which has been around for over 20 years.

I've been a Type 1 diabetic since the beginning of December 2002 and have seen the average full price of both my insulin drugs (Humalog and Lantus) go from $80 (Humalog) and $70 (Lantus) to over $400 (Humalog) and $300 (Lantus). I also don't have health insurance so paying for these overpriced drugs that only last ONE MONTH, I'm not able to live on my own because I'm always too damn broke.

I purchased a 2017 individual health insurance policy with $764.00 premium and a $6,000 dollar deductible. It's not an ACA Healthcare Marketplace policy. It was one of the few individual policies,in Texas, that wasn't an HMO,both on or outside the ACA Marketplace. Six weeks into 2017,I've learned that my Cigna policy doesn't offer a negotiated rate for insulin until I've met my deductible---I won't meet a $6,000 deductible unless I suffer some catastrophic event or am diagnosed with some terrible form of cancer. Since the passage of the Affordable Care Act and implementation of the pre-existing condition clause,in 2010,I've been able to buy individual health insurance. For the last seven years,I've benefited from an insurance negotiated rate for my insulins and they've been affordable.Today,I'm blindsided by the outrageous cost of insulin since I last bought it over-the-counter,without insurance! In 2010,a vial of Levemir or Humalog was around $160.00,without insurance. This seemed a high price when compared to the cost of Human insulins, which cost around $40.00 a vial,in 2010.Now,in 2017 a vial Levemir is over $400 dollars and Humalog KwikPens are $570 dollars. That's about a thirty-five day supply, for me.I just can't afford it.I can either drop my insurance and put my premium payment toward my insulin,or go back to the old Human insulins(R and NPH)that are only available at Walmart. Not great choices for a Type I who became brittle on the older insulins. This is just wrong. It's indefensible! Type I diabetics need daily insulin or they will die. There's no justification for these unconscionable price hikes. It's unadulterated greed and people will die.For the greater good, We need legislation that will give transparency to the cost of life saving insulins. We need regulations to provide checks and balances to the Big Pharma Robber-Barons who are holding peoples lives and the U.S. economy hostage.

I switched to a Marketplace health insurance policy on 2017. Not only are my premiums $900/month for my 3-member family, but my insulin costs are over $300/month. The drug companies are going to kill the golden goose and we all need to demand our lawmakers do something to bring them in check!

I've had to switch brands/types of insulin twice in the last year due to insurance companies not covering them which always manages to mess us my sugar numbers in the process. We've also, as of 2017, had to stop insuring my husband so we can continue to afford insurance for me as well as covering out out-of-pocket expenses which are much higher now.
