I worked for 15 years for a gastroenterologist as his medical assistant. Suddenly I was unable to eat without throwing it back up. I spent at least one week out of every month in the hospital. I lost 75 pounds leaving me with feeding through a TPN tube. I was so weak and sick that I lost my job. I was finally diagnosed with gastroparesis. The only way I know to describe it is feeling like you constantly have the stomach flu. No cure. Only treatment. People are dying from this daily. We need help. Please research and add to the disability list. It's awful. Just imagine your child, wife or husband going through this. Losing teeth from acid from vomiting so much. Feeding tubes because you throw up whatever you try to eat. Weak from malnurishment with organs shitting down. Please help.REPORT COMMENTS

I suffer from this horrific condition and am not able to hold a job down because of the unpredictableness of this disease. I badly wish I could wake up to an alarm clock every morning, but that is just not possible. I pray each night that tomorrow will be a better day.REPORT COMMENTS

I live with severe GP with little to no support from my family, the local medical community, and from social services. I have learned to fear food and drink of every kind. Food once was a place where I would gather around with friends and family and laugh, share stories, and bond. Now I eat alone, afraid of what will come next. Will it be pain? Belching? Nausea? Vomiting? Bloating? Or all the above? I did not ask for this. I did not do anything to cause this or deserve this. My body is slowly starving, and I deserve better, end of story!REPORT COMMENTS

I have this condition. It’s impossible to describe accurately. There is no warning when the pain hits. One moment you are standing and the next you are on the floor in the worst pain of your life. I have had children, sprains, breaks, ect. Nothing compares to this pain and it’s not short term. The pain lasts me 5-7 hours causing hypocapnia and accompanying tetany. The nausea never stops. Never. It varies throughout the day and night and sometimes you can control it with nausea medication, but many times you can not. The vomiting erodes the esophagus and rots the teeth. The malnutrition and dehydration take their toll on your energy and immune system. Even with a feeding tube or tpn you still have problems with vitamin deficiencies. Constantly feeling like you’re dying from being sick all the time. And many have died because of the complications this disorder caused, some have even taken their own life just to get relief, not because they were actually depressed. There is no cure, treatments like modifications to the diet, botox, gastric pacemaker, etc can help some, but many more have tried these treatments with no relief, or they are not candidates for them. I am on three nausea medications, but they don’t help much. How can you be expected to work when you are on the verge of vomiting all day every day and never know when or where the pain will cut you down. When you don’t have the energy to take a shower most days let alone do any housework. Where you can’t even spend any quality time with friends or family because you are too sick. Thank you for your time and consideration.REPORT COMMENTS

I am living with the CHRONIC DISEASE, GASTROPARESIS. My stomach is perminately paralyzed due to vagal nerve damage. Due to the severity of my dissability I had to have gastric pacemaker/stimulator surgery and am now living the the implant. I am still so sick I cannot live a normal life in fact I also have perminat heart damage caused by malnutrition and perminat brain damage caused by long term use of the medication, Reglan, a motility drug I had to take in order to stay alive this padt year. THIS IS A DISABILITY AND IT'S TIME IT IS RECOGNIZED. WE HAVE SUFFERED WITHOUT THE CORRECT HELP LONG ENOUGH.REPORT COMMENTS

I am 44 years old and I've had this for over 20 years. It's getting worse. It is so disgusting having it flair up at work and hanging my head over a public toilet. It's bad enough at home. And the pain and nausea make it almost impossible to do my job. But I have no choice, without it I couldn't get the medications and doctors care I need.REPORT COMMENTS
