I competed all requirements to receive the tax "credit" for a home purchased in November, of 2008 and was not notified of the requirement of repayment. My wife and I moved up our purchase date to take advantage of this "credit" -- now we owe because of this!! If I had waited less than two months, this would not have even been an issue! I am very disappointed in my representation. -

We are a family struggling in this economy like anyone else. The housing market crashed, and i think our family did our part to help re-build it. We bought a home in 2008. Unfortunately, we bought it a few months to soon. Unfair we have to pay back this credit, while the following year does not.REPORT COMMENTS

I was a widow and a single mom when I bought my first home and I do not think it is fair that only the people that received it in 2008 have to pay it back.REPORT COMMENTS

Quotation mark icon I feel this is completely unfair! I bought my home in August of 2008 and received the credit and then a few months later in 2009 the same credit was given but does not have to be paid back. That does not feel fair in anyway. If one should repay all should or else the people that became homeowners in 2008 should be repaid back or at least relieved of what that still owe!REPORT COMMENTS

I think everyone should be treated fairly and on an even basis. The repayment of the 2008 tax credit should be rescinded and the amount paid should be returned as a credit.REPORT COMMENTS

How is it that the US goverment.. our goverment who supposedly represents the us people have not corrected this travesty??. 2008, 2009, 2010.. all were tough years for everyone.. but to only have 2008 home buyers repay a supposed tax credit is a scam.. who is in charge of this situation?. Who is being held accountable?.. we the people need to voice our concern and demand our representatives fix this horrendous overlook.. President T.. congress.. someone step up and look at this!!!!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I wholehearted agree, this is a travesty. I know people who recently bought houses, one was a first time home buyer the other was not. They both received over $10,000 of FREE money, however I'm required to pay mine back.REPORT COMMENTS

I am lose for words concerning the repayment of my first time homebuyers home in 2008. I thought this was wonderful when I heard about it through my taxer payer, but soon noticed that everybody who were buying homes for the first time in 2009 did not have to pay back anything. "Shame" on are government for stealing from the 2008 first time homebuyers who thought we were getting a leg up on are new purchase. If were paying for the 2009 & 2010 new homebuyers, this should apply for them too. I would like my money back and not to have to pay another year of this money back at income tax time. I have enough debt out here to pay and this could be a relief to end this one. Thanks for nothing.REPORT COMMENTS

2008 was when the financial crises began and the economy was just as bad as 2009 so I see no reason why the credit given in 2008 is to be repaid. Most people who used the 2008 credit to help afford their first home, including me, lost their jobs that year or the next so we were all in the same financial constraints as those who got the credit free in 2009. It is very unfair that the 2008 payable credit is still not rolled back and we get refunded for what we've paid so far.REPORT COMMENTS

Has this issue made any headway!?! I'm still furious about it and every time I prepare our taxes, I'm reminded about it. We were ecstatic to purchase our first house and eventually move in together after remodeling and getting married in October. Then months later, the credit increased to $8,000 and didn't have to be repaid! All homebuyers in 2008 NEED to be exempt from repayment and credited what we've already paid back!REPORT COMMENTS

It's not fair that 2008 I, a single mom of 2, rushed the closing of the purchase on a new house to qualify for this $7,500 credit because it was ending at the end of the year. Only to find out that a few weeks later, they revamped it with a bigger credit ($8,000) and it does NOT have to be repaid. How is this fair to those that didn't procrastinate and yet have to pay back the full amount. In all fairness I feel this should be forgiven for those that received the $7,500 credit.REPORT COMMENTS

How can you say this is unfair. The tax credit we, including myself, have to pay back was under Bush, but the tax credit my friend does not have to pay back, because she bought her house under Obama's Presidency. The ones complaining, most likely voted for Bush and Trump. So don't complain! I voted for neither Bush or Trump, so I'm complaining, this tax is unfair.REPORT COMMENTS

Fairness is the keyword here. To penalize a person that purchased their home in 2008 rather than 2009 or 2010 is simply not fair. I elected to take the credit based upon need at the time and struggle every year to pay the $500.00 payment to IRS. Simply unfair!REPORT COMMENTS

Agreed, this is not fair at all, and I'm reminded of this every year I file my taxes!! Very upsetting when I see what my tax return could be if I didn't have to pay this back! President Trump, please repeal this and refund the money to those who have been paying into this. It's only right that they get their money back!REPORT COMMENTS
