I am not a veteren but I do suffer from ptsd from my childhood and as the parent of a severely autistic child. It has been debilitating at times and not many people around me understand. My husband has recently began to suffer from ptsd as well. We have an autistic teenage son who began to beat himself and breakdown our walls with his head he would scream at full volume for hours and after a couple of years of this my husband is no longer able to function properly in situations where there is loud noise or children screaming. We have to leave grocery stores or supercenters whether we are done shopping or not he just cant handle it. My husband is a good man and does the best he can I support him and he supports me, but the public view is different since he hasnt been able to work for a few years now. More awareness of what ptsd is and how it effects people would help many people not feel hopeless and alone in their struggle to survive it.REPORT COMMENTS

Service members most of the time, try hard to hide their afflictons a lot of the time, for fear of shame or stigma. Asking for one week of awareness for those who sacrifice so much for this country/us, we owe that to them as a minimum.REPORT COMMENTS

Without a doubt one of the biggest issues for our Nation today. Everyone must understand this is not simply a Veteran, Troop & their Families issue. It is a Nation Issue!! Everyone must understand the PTSD Issues will not be contained within the Military Family. IT WILL effect everyone around them in one way or another. You have to remember the Military Children will be in school with Your Children, will marry into your Family, ect... We cannot simply stick our heads in the sand, wave it off, and think it will not effect the entire Nation. IT WILL!! Please Be Aware, Please Care, Please Help!!!REPORT COMMENTS

PTSD can affect prior Military from all eras, not just the Vietnam and Iraq and Afghanistan eras. So please include all prior military personnel.REPORT COMMENTS
