our girls are required to perform at football games, basketball games, volleyball games, and school assemblys. we have to buy our own uniforms, supply our own equipment as well as transportation. we are forced to practice in our hallway because all other school sports come first to use the gym. -

I am signing this petition because I want cheerleader to have the same safety regulations as other sports. It breaks my heart to think that if I have a daughter may have to deny her request to become a cheerleader due to the safety aspect. Cheerleaders deserve to be as safe as anyone else!REPORT COMMENTS

As a cheerleader. I would like to say. We catch our friends, not a stupid ball, they can miss we cant or our friend could be severely hurt, we throw girls up in the air with only our forearms, get kicked in the head, have to memorize so much choreography, we cheerleaders work our butts off everyday, just for people to say we're not even a sport, its unfair.REPORT COMMENTS

As a coach, I would like to see the funding towards cheerleading program increase to allot for: additional training for coaches, more coaching staff and protective equipment. Because cheerleading is not seen as a sport, schools are not required to allocate funds towards it's advancement and often wait until catastrophe happens before measures are taken.REPORT COMMENTS

Title IX should be extended to apply to "Sports and other high-risk athletic activities", or just get rid of the word "Sports" and replace it with a more general word "Athletics"REPORT COMMENTS

We catch people, not balls - and we NEVER miss. Tell me that's not a sport. The time, dedication, and toll this sport takes on the body does prove cheerleading is a sport. Don't believe me? Watch the UK Wildcat cheerleaders or UofL...they make it look easy, but only the elite can do this.REPORT COMMENTS

As a former cheerleader and cheerleading coach, I can attest to the fact that cheerleading is absolutely a sport meeting all requirements of the true definition of a sport! Make cheerleading a sport so that it receives the funding and medical support that is needed!REPORT COMMENTS
