Cheerleading is very physically strenuous, at least more than golf, chess, or video games, which are all recognized sports. However, the definition of a sport is: 1.competitive physical activity: an individual or group competitive activity involving physical exertion or skill, governed by rules, and sometimes engaged in professionally And it is competitive physical activity, a group activity, involves physical exertion AND skill, and it is engaged in professionally. However, it isn't governed by a set of rules. I want a board of professionals to decide upon a set of consistent rules for cheerleading, for example, half a point is taken off if a stunt bobbles or wobbles. Then we could make cheerleading a sport. -

Video gaming is recognized as an official sport by the United States government now which I'm fully behind that but how can that be officially recognized and not cheerleading? It's ridiculous because it takes hard work and patience and many of the other virtues that are required in other sports that are officially recognized as sports. Cheerleading is competitive and fun for a lot of people and should be given the same official status that every other sport has. Thank you.REPORT COMMENTS

Definition of Sport: noun: sport 1. an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Hello people...... that is a cheerleader!! My daughter is more physically fit and works and trains harder then most boys her age. The cheer team holds more state title wins, then the football team they cheer for. When the golf team is listed as a sport and cheerleading is listed as a club, I have a huge problem with that. Give these girls and guys their credit due and make cheerleading a sport!!REPORT COMMENTS

I am a cheerleader and I believe we work just as hard as any other sports team and I hate getting frowned upon at my school that I am not an athlete and that cheerleading isn't a sport. Cheerleading deserves to be recognized as a sportREPORT COMMENTS

My daughter competes with an extra curricular cheering team. I have been blown away by the talent and athleticism of the kids. Perhaps there need to be two categories of cheer? Competitive cheer vs. spirit cheer, giving the children the opportunity to experience it in either categoryREPORT COMMENTS

My daughter is a cheerleader. She has spent over a decade developing skills unique to the sport and excels at it. She will be attending college in a couple of years, but has no legitimate expectation of earning even a partial scholarship for her skills. She practices up to 5 days a week, has coaches, competes during a defined season, and isn't there to "excite the crowd in support of her team." This is a competitive sport and deserves to be recognized as such for both NCAA and Title IX. The fact that it is not recognized is merely a demonstration of the continued discrimination against female athletes.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a cheerleader both for my school and computationally. like most doctors say cheerleading should be recognized as a sport for more safety regulations, I agree with this.REPORT COMMENTS
