This bill should ONLY apply to individuals and spouses who collect a FULL pension and try to get FULL or partial SS in addition. There are those of us who changed employment after paying into the system for many years and then loose our fully contributed SS amount because of a lousy 1/4 pension. If the individual is divorced it is even worse in most cases because the ex=spouse gets their full SS and collects HALF of the pensioner's fund. VERY UNFAIR. If you are taking my SS away from me and I loose half of my pension to a divorced spouse, THEY should also loose their SS! I am a professional nearing retirement, took time off to raise my children then returned to work I have very little retirement and will be living in poverty because of this Bill. Repeal! -

Repeal this extremely unfair provision that penalizes Police & Fire employees who gave up their nights, weekends and holidays for years to protect the public for lower wages than the private sector.REPORT COMMENTS

I was a public school teacher for 15 years, taught in private schools part-time, and other private sector jobs for 27 years. Because I made the decision to educate youth as well as adults, I am as well as other public servants are being penalized for working two jobs. I did this to make ends meet because school teachers do not make very much money. I worked two jobs and paid into two systems = this is not a windfall = I worked for every penny or dollar. Why am I and others being treated so unfairly? Especially since I and others have worked hard to educate, to deliver mail, to fight fires, to keep the public safe for America. Is this a why to treat American workers? Please help us and repeal this horrible law. Thank You.REPORT COMMENTS

As I have learned more about these provisions, i feel that my I am being penalized for choosing to be a teacher. I will loose the much needed spousal benefits from my husbands social security if he passes first. So I will not be able to maintain my living needs. This is a social injustice for the service that teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other government workers are penalized because of our chosen professions to serve the communities in which we live.REPORT COMMENTS

WEP is like putting money into a 401K and then having the government take part of that 401K money away from you for no reason other than you choose to work for the government after having spent years working private industry. I wasn't working both at the same time, but at least I work all those years, unlike so many today. But now I am being punished and my money taken from me. WEP should never have been established!REPORT COMMENTS

If we can give 9 billion dollars a year to illegal imigrants then teachers like me should not have to live in poverty because of Wep and Gov. Offset. I paid into SS for 21 years, I stayed at home to raise my three sons, when i returned to work as a single Mom I had to put two of those sons through high school and college, I was hit in the face when I went to apply for SS, and told I would only get 225. A month. Wish I could sue the government. I am now 70. Very poor.REPORT COMMENTS

Just went through my bills for October, looks like I should have around $51 to get me through the month; groceries, gas etc. without the offset I could get through the month with a little leftover! I wouldn't call that a windfall! I also have to figure out how to pay DMV for my tags... apparently they don't accept credit cards... I think the offset should depend on your income!REPORT COMMENTS

When one works for 10 years in private sector then enters a government job where no social security was taken out, they should not be penalized. I earned my 40 credits and should receive the amount owed (which is not very much I might say). To take money from that small amount is not right.REPORT COMMENTS

I should be allowed to have social security money I paid for work completed attributed to my record. As it currently stands, because I will retire with a federal pension, and if I don't meet an arbitrary minimum on certain years, I get zero credit for social security-credited work I completed. If I weren't a federal employee, I would never be subject to this kind of arbitrary reduction of benefits. Please eliminate the unfair WEP.REPORT COMMENTS

It's time to stop steeling from the American People who worked for the Government and private sector. We didn't work multiple jobs and pay multiple pensions to get robbed. We did it to survive. Meanwhile The Government gives money to other countries. Well it's time to take care of your own people first. We are not asking for something special, we want what we paid for. When you pay into two buckets, you should receive from two buckets. The problem is, the government stole from the national bucket. Stop robbing the Americans who supported you.REPORT COMMENTS

My career in (non-Social Security contributing) law enforcement was shorter since prior to that, I spent over 10 years as a power plant worker, contributing to Social Security. I think it's totally unfair. I worked 31 years in a state position in Ohio. When I retired I worked 5 years in a county position and then 13 more years in another position and all that time I paid into social security. When I fully retired at age 70 I was greatly penalized by having the social security I had paid into all of these working years stripped away because of this ridiculous rule. I fully believe it should be overturned. Thank you.REPORT COMMENTS

No, CancelJul 29th, 2017AL L. from Port Charlotte, FL writes:
How unfair to deprive people worked enough credits to receive social security benefits while giving it away to others that didn't! Also, they fail to take into account that a government pension is TAXED like ordinary income while SS is NOT. For example if you and your spouse each receive $30,,000 a year in SS for a total of $60,000 only 50% of SS benefits are taxable if under the threshold limits. In this case only $30,000 is taxable but you pay NO tax because it is under the threshold. You get to keep the entire $60,000 as income. But with a government pension the govt workers pension is not divided in half but is subject to taxation like any other income. So since that same $60,000 results in income exceeding the $44,000 threshold , the spouse that earns the SS has 85% of their SS income taxed ($25500) while the govt pension is 100% taxable. Instead of an AGI of $30,000 it is instead $55500 resulting in significant tax payment compared to two SS incomes. How fair is THAT? Government workers are being penalized from TWO angles!! Reduced SS benefits and full tax on their pension.REPORT COMMENTS

I paid 14+ years into Social Security and then begin a teaching career. Next year will be my 20th year of teaching and I was hoping to retire.
