Thank you for your service.
I am contacting you to urge you to support an American industry that is creating jobs, saving homeowners money and is helping to preserve what has become our very fragile environment. The industry that I am referencing is solar ? an industry that experienced 13% jobs growth in 2012 (13,800 jobs in 2012 for a total of 119,000 industry wide), continues to save money for an ever-increasing number of U.S. homeowners (over 1 million to date) and generates clean, green energy that does not contribute to global warming.
The results of a recent national poll* revealed the following:
? 92 percent of voters believe it?s important for the U.S. to develop and use more solar energy
? 85 percent of voters view solar energy favorably (60 percent very favorable)
? 78 percent of voters say government should support growth of solar energy with incentives
The fossil fuel industries receive long-term government subsidies, yet the energy they generate has become more expensive over time and their employment figures continue to shrink each year. They also cause significant public health problems and environmental issues. Solar power on the other hand, has dropped precipitously in price with the aid of some short-term policy incentives, while maturing as an industry and employing more and more Americans. This American invention, combined with subsequent ingenious efforts built in the U.S. to deploy it, is a true success.
The political will of the people is clearly on the solar industry?s side and I urge you, as my elected official, to reflect that will by supporting policies that promote the growth and deployment of solar power.
