I have been around horses my entire 36 yrs of life. The New children writing letters to congress so they can plead the anti slaughter crowds status about horse slaughter is not only sick, but it also prays on those who do not understand what horses are. horses are livestock NOT pets. There is a problem in this country with unwanted horses, and when the ban was passed, the anti slaughter side was upset. So they brought up having kids write letters to congress. This is NOT only sick, but it prays on their minds. Our youth SHOULD not have to fight a battle that does not involve them at all. This needs to stop and these letters should NOT be allowed to be presented to congress.

The Letter-writing should be limited to those old enough to vote. Children can have their opinion, but it should not be taken into consideration of that which they are financially unable to contribute towards a solution.
In my opinion, children are not really aware of what goes on around them. There is no full understanding of the real world and tend to think in a story type environment, similar to a Disney Character. Things are not normally real and they copy their parents. They have not learned to think for themselves.
Having kids write letters on horse slaughter is like having a three year old explain to you on how to drive. I am a big supporter of horse slaughter. And these anti slaughter dimwits are praying on our youth. HSUS is the leading cause of normal americans that know nothing about horses, but being against horse slaughter, they portray horse slaughter as people eating horses, they conveniently leave out that the horse will also be used for leather, medicine, cosmetics, glue that these kids will use in school, pet food , and as well as cancer research. But they don't want the general public to know those things.
They just want to use brainwash techniques that were outlawed for tv commercials.
Horse slaughter is a good thing and our country will flourish from it . It will create more jobs, not only in the slaughter plants but also in many many other areas.

If they are under 18, what is the point of considering their view point? They can't vote, all they have is the cutesy factor.
If they are under 18 their views should not be considered. Children do not vote. This is not a civics lesson. If they are being instructed to oppose slaughter, then they can express themselves by raising funds for hay & support a rescue by having a car wash or bake sale. Thank You.
Not only is this wrong, but its in the same catagory as Hitlers Youth! Forcing views on innocent children and brainwashing them is wrong on either side! I support horse slaughter 100%.... I love my horses, but I want them to go to use if they have to go! Humane slaughter is a necessary part of owning livestock. Any school that supports any sort of political writing campaign should immediately lose all federal and state funding. We are supposed to teach our children the political system at school, not make up their minds for them!
Children should not be swayed to write letters about matters they know nothing about. I'm sure if we were to ask them if they'd want chickens "slaughtered" they'd say no, however, they would happily munch chicken nuggets while writing the letter to protest chicken slaughter.
Getting children to write letters about which they have no understanding is just sick indeed.
Please do not let the emotional letters of children who are not capable of understanding the complexities of this issue influence your decision. Emotions have no place in deciding the welfare of animals nor humans. The unintended consequences of the defunding of USDA inspectors and the subsequant closing of the plants in the USA have led to the decline of horse welfare across this land.
Such a shame when adults use children as their puppets to do things they are not old enough to grasp an understanding about. All they know is "mommy & daddy" are directing them to do this without knowing exactly the whys behind it. I'm sure they are told some awful story about how the "mean heartless horse haters" want to kill all the "pretty ponies". Be aware that most of the people who support slaughter, own & love their horses as if they were their children. Do we understand there's a need for it, yes. Do we want to see our own horses slaughtered, no.
Children are not old enough to drink or vote or drive a car, WHAT in god's name makes people think they are capable of making decisions for ADULTS about OUR livestock?
Children function on only two things what mommy and daddy wish and their own impressionable emotions. NOT logic, not wisdom so having them write in favor of banning slaughter is irresponsible and juvenile on the part of those adults who pull their puppet strings. Let children BE CHILDREN for as long as they are able. Life and it's bitter realities will come along to bite them in the duff all together too soon as it is.
First and formost,most of the children that are being targeted for this,campain are to young to understand the complexities of this issue,and targeting these groups should be ,punishable ,by taking there facebook walls down,its one thing for the parents to write there own letters but not the children and using kids this way is a abuse of a parents rights,use good common sence here folks.
