We need a cure. You can carry & spread this virus without symptoms for decades and it's not even included in a standard STD battery of tests. This virus increases the risks of HIV & Alzheimers. We need to include this in standard STD testing and we need funding for research and ease FDA approvals.
Since contracting the virus, I have frequently had painful outbreaks, that at times lasted for weeks. With that said, I have also had at least 10 outbreaks each year I have lived with this virus. No it doesn't get easier with time, one only learns to accept their diagnosis. With each outbreak, my life seizes and I fall into deep depression because i no, I no longer will be able to allow myself to freely date whom I'm attracted to. I did contract this virus from an individual I cared for deeply, and we did use protection, however with this virus protection doesn't always prevent one from contracting the virus. For a few years now, I have been battling depression and anxiety, that I had no history of prior to contracting the virus. Also my education and career goals have derailed a tad bit due to my depression. I am anxiously waiting for a cure so that my life can once again commence. This is a serious virus, and therefore should be taken seriously.
I was diagnosed with HS2 four days ago. I am not a slut and do not sleep around, I got this disease from someone who does not know they have the virus. How am I going to tell them when they do not even show any signs themselves? Thankfully yet sadly, I know I am not alone. Please work to fund a cure. If we can cure or even reduce the spread of HS2, we can do so for the spread of HIV/AIDS. We MUST ACT

It's true, genital sores do not have to be present to increase your risk for becoming infected. You just simply have to carry the HS virus, and now your at a five-fold risk for aquiring HIV. Let's reduce the number of people from becoming infected by HIV by curing HSV1&2. Also, finding a cure for HIV would be of great importance, but a cure for HSV is within near future. Support this petition and reduce billions of tax dollars being used to treat HIV and HSV by supporting a cure.

The reason HSV antivirals are not effective at reducing HIV transmissions in people infected with Genital Herpes is because the immune cells that patrol the genital track to fight herpes are the same cell's that HIV infects. Current herpes antivirals do not completely suppress the virus. This leads to the immune system sending immune cells to fight off any leftover replicating virus. There have been studies that show that these immune cells stay in the genital track for many months after an outbreak has healed. It is also known that HIV can stay in the genital tract for a week. So, it is very important to stop the spread of genital herpes as well as HIV. There is Zinc Finger, Meganucleases, and siRNA technologies available now that are possible cures for both pathogens. Please put forth more funding for cure research.
