It is time for a change the laws are unfair. It will also help with the economy. There are fathers that are incarcerated that need to be in the free world taking care of their families. It is unfair for an indiviual to recieve more time for crack compared to someone that has commited a murder. The justice system need's to be revamped.
Law should apply equally! 1:1 and retroactive! This new law (still very classist and racist) of sentencing guidelines 18:1 needs to be applied to ALL, including those already incarcerated!
Progress is being made, however the attempt to make the system more fair has created yet another injustice to those who have already been convicted. Come on Congress, stop being lazy!!
my husband got 20yrs fed time and my kids and I are his support system PERIOD! and it kills us everyday he is away from us. I thank you Mrs. Williams for this petition and we need to get this to everyone my kids miss and need their father and i my husband. we are in NC and he is in Texas its hard to raise one alone let alone 2 so I pray it becomes retroactive. u all r in our prayers

The amount of time that an offender can receive for trafficking in crack cocaine is extraordinarily high. Even for for time offenders...this is totally unfair as well as unjust for another human being!
I hope this works for you, I am in the same situation. My fiance has been locked up since 2000. I am currently looking into this retroactive thing hoping it will pass. Good luck to you and your family.
I agree with Ms. Williams wholeheartedly about the unfairness between sentencing for crimes like child molestation or murder, and drug sales crimes. One thing in particular that deems it necessary for this bill to become retroactive is that at their individual discretion, judges previously were able to inflict the maximum sentence even when a jury's finding called for the minimum, and made no qualms about exercising that power.
