When my father a WWII vet lived with me he could not use these facilities, he had to go to Manhattan or Staten Island to be hospitalized. What a same and a waste to have our current Vets go to Brooklyn or further on Long Island to have their medical needs met.
This building plays a vital role in our nation's history and continues to serve the needs of our armed forces. Demolition of this hospital would be an atrocity....
As more troops return home, lets use Memorial Day week as an opportunity to truly honor them in DEED and not just by our words: Keep the St. Albans VA open and EXPAND its services!!!!
THAT THERE IS NO NEED IN OUR COMMUNITY FOR CONGESTED MULTI-DWELLING RENTAL UNITS, RETAIL STORES AND RESTAURANTS. ST ALBANS COMMUNITY IS A LOW-DENSITY SINGLE HOME MINORITY COMMUNITY AND WE WANT TO KEEP IT THAT WAY FOR OUR HEALTH. WE NEED GREEN AND OPEN SPACE, NOT UNHEALTHY OVER-CROWDING AND DEVELOPMENT. THE VETERANS ADMINISTRATION AND THE DEVELOPERS ALSO WANT TO ROB US OF OUR MOST SIGNIFICANT AND BEAUTIFUL LANDMARK IN THE SOUTHEAST QUEENS AREA, THE ST ALBANS NAVAL HOSPITAL.
The Veteran's Hospital and nursing home facility serves a vital purpose in the Queens community. It must be retained and enhanced in order to serve all of our veteran's who served their country so well.
THANK YOU!
We want the VA hospital in St. Albans retrofitted to a full service veterans affairs medical center for our Queens and Nassau county veterans, with a primary and extended care facility for female veterans. These two counties have the higest population of veterans in NYS and the USA. Is there anything more to be said? Anyone who stands in silent prayer or attends a memorial day parade in honor of our veterans would be a hypocrite if they didn't stand with the St. Alban's community on this issue. Our President and Mrs Obama try their best to see our veterans are cared for with honor and dignity. Please, don't let them down either. Our veterans gave us the freedom to speak out on this situation. I stand with the veterans and the community of St. Albans.
After what the Veterans have done for us - your Freedom is NOT free!! They fought for your country, they fought for your rights, and this is how you repay them.. SHAME ON YOU!!!
I have been showing my gratitude by visiting the Veterans Hospital every year (every holiday) to show them that I care. Isn't it the least that YOU can do?
I am forwarding this petition to every local official that believes in Veterans rights to a happy home when they can't be with loved ones. We need to care about our Veterans and where they go to find some peace and solitude. Its a beautiful facility and what the people of ST. ALBANS don't need is another concrete jungle!!
I stand by the community of ST. ALBANS in their fight to do the RIGHT thing. There is NEVER a wrong time to do the RIGHT thing!
Congestion around the VA on Linden Blvd. at rush hour is unbelievable. We are already an overdeveloped area. More development at the site of the VA would be obscene, and another example of profit taking precedence over the welfare of the people.
I am a US Navy Veteran and a resident of St Albans for over 10 years.I affirm that further commercializing and increasing the population of this community will serve no good purpose.
We don't need any more over crowding in our neighborhoods and communities. Develope the Suburbs, the city is over developed! Our Veterans need a place to go and be taken care of.
As a former resident of the community, I know that with our current involvement in conflicts in the Middle east, family members and our military people need this facility in the neighborhood to better support our loved ones in uniforms.
I have two uncles that are veterans. One of them is disabled. If if weren't for the VA Hospital being so close, it would make it alot harder for him to get the necessary care that he needs.
I was born and raised in the Jamaica Area and the St. Albans VA Hospital was a viable complete hospital. I also remember the baracks that lined the side of the hospital property along the Merrick Blvd. side. It was a much larger hospital then. We have many veterans and enlisted men and women, who have utililzed the facility. The closest VA Hospital is the one in Brooklyn and Suffolk County. To create an updated hospital which would serve veterans and enlisted personnel in Queens as well as Nassau County could eleviate travel hardships and expenses for those who need medical care. Rather than selling portions of this land to developers, transform the hospital into a full service hospital again for the veterans and enlisted personnel and their families. We have witnessed what "so-called" developers have created in Jamaica thus far, thanks to some of our local "officials" and clergy. Let's bring back the pride and compassion in our community, for our veterans and enlisted personnel who need our help especially now.
We need this VA Hospital, They are taking away everything we need as a community and as veterans. We were there when they needed us, they should not forget all we done for our Country. Do we live in a Democratic Communist Country. I Hope and Pray we don't.
