I am 25 and a first time convicted felon. I'm having trouble finding work....period. I know if given the opportunity I could make an outstanding soldier and productive member of society. I've been to prison, paid my debt and want to change. But it seems like the world is agains't me. I believe that felons should be given a break if they show that they really are changing their ways.
A person should not continue to be punished after paying their debt to society. The systems is set up to where felons cannot find work or shelter and then we wonder why they reoffend. The military might be just what a felon needs to begin rebuilding their life.
I was 18 when I committed my felony. I am 23yr male in top shape physically & mentally. I was a kid in highschool and made a mistake. All I ever wanted is to serve.
Over half of the pioneers who fought for and founded this country were "criminals" or felons and that was before our own government started locking people up like crazy.. If you're not with us you're against us this is OUR country not yours government
Just because they messed up in the past doesnt mean theyre incapable of serving their country! If anything, them wanting to sign up & devote their lives to serving our country should prove themselves worthy enough!!!!
Give people the chance to make rite the wrong choices they have made as young adults. While bringing and honor and respect to them selves and there family's.
let felons fight for our country. we need people from all walks of life in our army. the army knocks people down and rebuilds them right? Can we do that to felons to? Yes we can lets make america a better and stonger place. amen
I was convicted of distribution of cocaine in 2002, on november1. I served 5years and 3 months I have been home for 5 years, I have been enrolled in college since and I have been working since my release. I am also off of probation. I was incarcerated at 18, I'm. 28 now.
At 23yrs old I got into a nasty fight. I served 9months in jail. I'm 32 now, if I could change the past I would, but can't. I would love to serve my country like my father and brother who currently is with the navy.
Nidal Hassan didn't have a record. I'm 31 and had a DWI related death when I was 18. I have since earned my NC state electrical license, and in the meantime, paid for Hassan to go to medical school. Then They told me I wasn't suitable for service, but they still collect my taxes, and make sure scum like Hassan has a chance to shoot our soldiers. I'd give anything to be able to join. But, it's not the land of the free. If they find out your brave, they'll just lock you up because they'll be scared that you might actually achieve something, and have a better life. I thank God and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that their standard for forgiveness and second chances eclipses the governments'. In God We Trust. Yeah. That's funny....
I wanna join the army but I got felons on my record when I was 18 and 19 years old. I haven't been in trouble since. Please give me the chance to join. I want to fight for my country. My name is Brian Atallian. Please email me back @ brian_atallian@yahoo.com
I believe felons should be given a second chance at a future. How can you not give a one time felon a second chance at a better future? You want felons to better themselves but you dont want to give them a second chance to prove to all of us that they can be a productive citizen to society? I know if you allowed people with a one time felon that these people would come out of the military as great citizens. I am not a felon, but know people who are that I see struggle everyday because no one wants to give them a second chance. This isnt American at all and it's horrible that these people are treated this way. All they want is a better life and dont want to do anything illegal ever again! These people want to fight for this country! It's crazy that some countries allow every citizen actually force every citizen to do a mandatory 2-4 years in the military regarding any type of record and the United States wont give a second look at a felon. These people are AMERICANS! These people have family members who have done great things for this country and you cant return the favor in anyway to help these people who has dreamed all their lives to become a soldier in the US military?! Give these people a second chance. Atleast give a one time felon a second chance.
Atleast allow people who have one felony charge to join. People make mistakes in life and people should be given a second chance and if you had a charge dismissed by pretrial diversion or adjudication withheld I believe the military needs to look at it as if they arent a felon since in the civilian world and by law you arent a felon if you got pretrial diversion or adjudication withheld. The military can make people more discipline and become a better overall person. What would Jesus do? He would give you a second chance. If the United States military and civilian employers dont want to give felons a chance to better themselves then why do they expect them to learn from their mistakes and become a productive citizen? Sounds kind of hypocritical to me. If the United States doesnt want to give felons a chance at a better life then why dont yall just send all felons to death row? No point in living if you cant have a second chance at a better life. To all of you felons out there just remember God and Jesus sees all and knows if you really want to better yourselves or not. Jesus says forgive and people who cant forgive will be judged for that one day. I have hope and I shall pray for all of you who just want to become a better person and just want a second chance at a better life. God and Jesus knows what a lot of us would sacrafice for that second chance at life. Dont give up, keep your faith, and spread the word.
I am a convicted felon,it has been 5 years since i have been in trouble.I have been doing everything i can to being a better person,i want to join the US army..It has been a dream of mine but because of my bad choices in life it has prevented me..EVERYONE DESERVES A SECOND CHANCE! I would die for my country! And would like the opportunity to fight for it!
I have an identical case to the other soldiers on here like me. I was 17 yrs. old and was with someone that broke into a convenience store, and I didn't even enter the building or take anything and was charged with burglary of a building. The details would make you sick about everything, and just like the other post on here I had a lifelong dream to save lives and be a soldier. I received time served in a state jail and instantly enrolled at Weatherford College two months after my release to which I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. This semester I got a 4.0 GPA and have not got one C on my transcript since I started and I graduate top of my class in one more semester. After what I've seen I'm seriously thinking about changing my major to political science and law to personally make sure the corruption and bad laws don't affect my children. The government and the military should be ashamed of themselves....
I was 14 convicted burglary never took a thing i pled guilty to criminal mischief vandalism not burglary i went through meps got a ship out date and today i find out theyre discharging me FIGHT YOUR RIGHT TO FIGHT FOR AMERICA i am an A STUDENT never was in trouble ever before after now my dreams of serving in the navy is crushed waitin 10 days for a chance
