I have had so many family members who have been in the military. Every time I attend a military funeral, its TAPS that makes me reflect upon their life, their service, and how great our Nation is! Taps needs this National recognition! God Bless America!
I as a son a chaplain have heard the cries of mothers that have lost their sons in war. My dad has had to inform a wife, a sister, a grandmother, and dad. That their only son died serving his country. Taps has been sounded on all Theaters after the Civil War. So please make Taps our national song of rememberence.
I am the surviving spouse of Lt COl Richard Wersel, Jr. USMC who served two tours in Iraq and died 4 Feb 2005 . He is burried in Arlington. I fully support this initiative as the National song of Remembrance. Thank you all for your efforts.
ALL military funerals should require a LIVE bugler (active duty or civilian) to perform Taps. Recordings are disrespectful to the brave men and women who served our country with honor, and should only be used as a last-ditch alternative to a live bugler.
I am honored to be a member of an American Legion Honor Guard team for 12 years and I have participated in many hundreds of military funerals. I have seen the moving effect that “Taps” has on the families of those Veterans. The hymn provides a feeling of closure and comfort for all that are present. The playing of “Taps” is a dignified and proud tradition and deserves to be designated as our Country’s “National Song of Remembrance”.
There is no more American piece of music than this...what an appropriate action to take! Taps may trancscend nationalities, but I doubt it, though it would be an honor to have Taps played at anyone's memorial or funeral.

As a Former Marine Corps Bandmens. I have played Taps many times and at the age of 72, I still do play Taps when requested for Military Funerals. It's a great and proud tradition.
When I play Taps and listen to it I feel honored and proud. I had witnessed the United States Marine Band at Arlington Cementary bury my wife's grandfather with full honors. What a honor to hear the band and bugler.
As a mother of two proud young men serving in the U.S. Army this is both a privilage and honor to sign such an important petition. The men and women of all U.S. military branches deserve nothing less for their sacrifices!
This is so incredibly important especially in this time of near national emergency...Taps is part of who we are as a Republic and it MUST be our National Song of Remembrance...
Recently I have played Taps for: John Goodman - Bastogne defender - lost most of his toes to frostbite / Garlan Eslick -survivor USS Arizona - trapped in hull 30 hours / Bob Morgan Master Bugler and survivor USS Indianapolis........ We must honor these (our heroes) with their National Song of Remembrance. We must not forget.
I believe that our military veterans deserve the honor this title would bestowe upon their final recognition for their service to this great nation when the buglar sounds the most beautiful notes of TAPS at their funeral.
It is truly an honor to share God's musical gift with our fallen heroes; may each and every one rest in peace. With a grateful heart... Major (retired) T-Baggs
Taps is a very befitting piece for the National Song of Remembrance. It pulls at the heart to remind everyone of the sacrifices the uniformed service men and women have made, make and will make in the future for this country.
Former USMC Corporal, Infantry. Taps was a nightly moment of silence. As the notes driffted across the base everything stood still; sometimes it seamed the insects even took a moment to remember the fallen.
28 years in the Coast Guard. I've lost many comrads. None had a bugler at their funeral. I have begun practicing taps on a bugle for the last year. I'm ready to honor veterans at their funerals with my bugle. Playing the bugle is not easy, but through practice and diligence, you will play it well.
I am a naval reservist and am an honor guard for military funerals we use taps on CD or bugle insert live taps is much better less likely of equipment malfunction

I have been a Cavalry Bugler since 1967, and I'm a member of Bugles Across America. I respectfully and fully support submitting this request to our Congress. I had the honor of playing Taps for my dad.
It is an privilege and indeed an honor to sign this petition to designate "Taps" as our country's "National Song of Rememberance". When a bugler performs each of those twenty-four notes, it evokes a flood of feelings for the family of the fallen, the people in attendance, as well as for the bugler themselves. This solemn bugle call defines us as a nation in how we remember our military members who served our country so valiantly so that we can all enjoy the freedoms we have today. Michael Simoneaux (26+ veteran of Army/Air Force Band Programs).
It's hard to believe, we send our parents, grandparents, siblings, families and friends to fight for our freedom and those who make a sacrifice should feel honored to have this meaningful song designated as a National Song of Remembrance.
This is long overdue, please preserve our history for all those that came before us, and those who continue to make the sacrifices necessary to preserve our freedom.
I have had many family members serve in the armed forces, and I have played trumpet since the 6th grade. I am now working on certification to play G valve-less bugle at military funerals. This is SO important for veterans to have live taps. At my great-grandfathers funeral when I was 10, the recorded music cut out, and it was really disappointing.
Playing taps at Echo Taps Around The World,on Armed Forces Day in MAY OF 2007,at Rittman,National Cemetary was an unforgetable honor,in rememberance of all armed forces.I will never forget this.I hope that this petition will be heard and honored.
