Save Constellation

The purpose of this petition is to oppose the cancellation of the Constellation Program, NASA’s plan to return to the moon. When the Space Shuttle is retired later this year, America will have no access to space and will be forced to buy seats on Russian rockets at a cost of $50 million per seat. Canceling Constellation will mean that we will have no plan for a replacement launch vehicle. This will leave America at a considerable disadvantage. A robust space program is vital if America is to remain competitive in the global community.

Canceling Constellation will cost thousands of jobs across the nation and cripple NASA. Without clearly defined goals, the agency will falter and quickly become obsolete. China, Russia, and other nations are aggressively advancing their space programs. America cannot afford to lose its dominance in space.

Private industry is expected to fill the role left vacant by NASA. While it is important to advance the role of private industry in human spaceflight, no private company has yet been able to launch anything into orbit or beyond. It would be foolish to rely solely on private industry for all of our nation’s needs in space. Only NASA can meet our goals for the foreseeable future, and Constellation is the best way to make that happen.

Please support the Constellation Program.

i must approve that....
This program MUST be kept alive. It's vital to our country and to us as members of the human race. Space exploration is a means for pushing technology and society forward, and as a super power on Earth, the United States can NOT cease to have access to space. PLEASE SAVE PROJECT CONSTELLATION
So many scientic and medical advances have been made by our space program! Continue to fund this program, and help us to help the future of all humankind!
What we had with Project Constellation, was the most ambitious plan for human exploration in the history of man kind. After more than 40 years of empty promises since we last went to the moon, we had finally begun to lay the foundations for our return to the cosmos. We had begun to develop a rocket called Ares V, which would have been the most powerful vehicle ever created, able to lift the wight of somthing like the ISS in a single launch. I fear now that we will spend the next 40 years hearing things like " we plan to bla, bla, bla within 20 years"
This program is important to our nation. Please, don't cancel a symbol of national pride. I believe we can achieve great things. We should not give up on something we begin just because its to hard. When things are difficult we have always overcome obstacles. Constellation is a test of our resolve to achieve. Americans never quit we reach for the stars and make our dreams come true.
By continuing the Constellation Program, we are investing money, not spending it. There's a big difference.
Yea Constellation is a step backwards, but its SOMETHING, we need a new frontier. by killing Constellation, you will kill a chance to cause a new 'golden age' in American science and technology. It's an old design, yes. BUT WE KNOW IT WILL WORK. it's something at least. The people need something to look at and say, 'hey we're still top dog, we're still at the forefront of this.' Now china will get a lead on us....i won't stand for a bunch of human rights violators setting the standard for future space exploration and colonization, we need boots in the dust up there. there's a difference between sending robots and people...a big difference. No one glorifys robots as much as we have glorified the Apollo astronauts. For the love of god, DON'T KILL IT!
We can not be without a manned space program, it will cost more to pay the russians to fly us than to just keep going with constallation. Please vote to keep the program alive, so that my niece (8) and Nephew (6) can get excited about a launch into space as we did when we were kids
It makes me sick to think that we may have a 5 year or more gap without a manned spaceflight program. Congress: DO SOMETHING INSTEAD OF BICKERING. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO FUND THE PROGRAM THEN KEEP THE SHUTTLE FLYING AND BUILD NEW ONES!!!
