Who are these Senators anyway? We should be able to vote on their benefits and it seems they need to experience the same "benefits" that we do. Our Congress is broken. Was it ever caring and concerned about the rest of us?
ONCES AGAIN WE SEE OUR GOVERMENT WORKING OUT DEALS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. WHEN WILL PEOPLE IN WASHINGTON LEARN THAT WE WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS KIND OF PERFORMANCE, WE THE PEOPLE BETTER CLEAN HOUSE COME THIS NOV OR WE HAVE NO ONE PUT OURSELF TO BLAME. DO MNOT LET THIS PASS ANY KIND OF VOTE.
How can you agree to pass this amendment without our knowledge.. If it was not for the AARP ..I would not have known about this.. Would you want someone to decide by their vote on your retirement without your knowledge..?? Come on now.. whats going on with our country.. Its bad enough that we as seniors do not get a increase in our Social Security this year.. you try making it on less tha $600.00 a month .. What is going on that congress would pass something as important as this without our knowledge .. what else are you doing that we do not know about .. I am so disappointed in our government.. I feel you do not care about us as individuals.. its your own behind that you worry about .. how in good conscience can you believe this would be good for us seniors.. who have worked our whole lives and counted on this money .. and to think someone such as you could change this and then what.. we get a letter saying its gone .. or its decreased.. NO Way .. might as well live in Russia .. let the government decide whatever it wants to . something like this should be on a ballot and than you would get your answer as to whether to vote yes or no.. just remember we have that right .. to vote yes or no when it comes to voting for you as well..
Vote no on this! It is outrageous that this issue is even up for a vote. What happened to "WE the people"?? Do the words, taxation without representation ring a bell??? The people don't want this!
Why would congress descuss a program that involves so many people behind closed doors. What happened to transparency our president campaigned. The program I have contributed all my working life should not be treated so lightly. I really resent my benefits being cut to support those who do not work.
Those of you in congress need to remember that you are public servants that represent the people. As such the Conrad-Gregg Amendment needs your no vote. This is too important, and it has to have open debate in congress.
There are other ways to reduce health care costs. The generation that has provided for the next generation should not have their benefits taken away from them.
This seems to be the trend in OUR Congress...do all things behind closed doors. Vote NO on this Conrad-Gregg amendment for the good of the Seniors!! You ought to be understanding now that your days in your cushy job are going to come to an end!!
Please do not disturb social security, medicare and medicaid as they currently stand. If you do,people who only have soc sec to live on will not be able to live. You try it
It is unconscionable that fiscal hawks in Congress like Senators Bayh, Conrad, Gregg, Corker, McCaskill, Dorgan, etc. would have the audacity to punish Seniors and others in ENTITLEMENT programs for THEIR "SINS" (excessive spending on TAX CUTS to the wealthiest Americans, unnecessary and immoral WARS, financial DE-REGULATION, the expiration of the Estate Tax, etc.) How DARE they even think to set up a fast-track commission (made up of despicable creatures like Peter Peterson and David Walker, etc.)to by pass the legislative process on such important Entitlement legislation. To the fiscal hawks, I say: "GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY SOCIAL SECURITY and MEDICARE!"
There should be no discussion on an amendment that could put several million Americans in positions to not be able to afford medicine, food, and/or their homes for that matter!! We are Americans and at the very least we are brothers and sisters...how could our Senators sit by and watch others take away what very little many of us have today!! To all Senators I say, Vote "NO"...remember you are all ELECTED officials!!
Please vote NO on the Conrad-Gregg amendment. I fear that we will have no say over who decides our fate in these crucial matters to be adressed by the task force.
The American people are, more and more, wary of their government. The creation of this task force will only serve to deepen our mistrust.
Vote NO on Conrad-Gregg! Do the job YOU were elected to do by dealing with such important matters openly in Congress, not by turfing them to a clandestine commission which subverts a fair democratic process.
Apparently we are not all in "the same boat." As mine is in serious peril and may sink while that of Congressmen will sail on unless they are held responsible somehow.

"So, the Gregg-Conrad legislation should be amended to include this language:
'During the life of this task force, which will perform Congress' fundamental duties, all senators and representatives will be considered on vacation and will not be paid. If the task force's recommendations are accepted by Congress, there will be no congressional pay until 2050.'"
"This would be a Madisonian measure, altering incentives in order to encourage responsibility."
Senators Durbin and Burris, as the representatives from my state I expect that you will vote against the Conrad-Gregg ammendment along with the current health care bill that the people do not want. The Mass election defeat for the Democrats is sending a message that those who vote for and support the health care bill will be voted out of office.
The issues are much too broad and serious to be off-loaded to a narrow-minded task force whose design is secrecy and fast-tracking! Congress has a responsibility to their constituents; don't let us down. If we are truly living in a democracy then do the job you were elected to do and take into account the whole picture and not a mere pixel. Please vote AGAINST the Conrad-Gregg amendment and any such bill which circumvents what you know in your hearts is the proper approach. As an American citizen I am counting on you to make the right and proper decision.
Seniors are already hanging on by a thread. You want to torpedo their last tenuous hold to survival. Perhaps you should look to your own house to clean first.
Dear Senator,
I urge you to vot AGAINST the Conrad-Gregg amendment. Under this amendment, major decisions on long-term changes to programs including Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid would be turned over to a task force that would focus, behind closed doors, solely on debt reduction. Their recommendations would then be fast-tracked through Congress with a simple up or down vote, leaving no room for debate, constituent input or amendments. I believe that forcing changes to these critical benefit programs by fast-tracking changes and eliminating room for debate or amendments is an undemocratic way to address the future of such programs.
Fast track bill are historically used only to limit debate and amendments, e.g., trade. This is a terrible idea. If we need to save money, do so by impacting the rich not the poor and middle class. The public is getting close to wanting to throw all the bums out of Congress. Unfortunately, currently in elections, most of the opponents are also bums.
Actually, anything having to do with health care, health insurance, and finances which is supported by Conrad and Gregg has good to be contrary to the public's interest. It is amazing that President Obama asked Gregg to be Commerce Secretary.
We should have an open debate in Congress. You do not have to cut benefits. Raise the ceiling on the amount taken out of pay checks. As far as medicare, we contribute to medicare as well as Social Security. These come out of our paychecks. These are not perks.
We pay for these and we are entitled
I worked hard over 40 years to qualify for Medicare. During that time I did not resent
the elderly that received benefits.
I knew that Medicare would be there for me
when I qualified. Why does the workforce of today feel that they should not be required to pay into the program?
Do not allow the Conrad-Gregg amendment be
approved!!! A full and open debate is the right of all of us, young or old. We must
stand up to those that want to secretly
decide which programs will be cut.
Say "No" to Conrad-Gregg

I am in full agreement with the above letter and urge you to vote no on the Conrad-Gregg amendment
