This is an outrage!! It is unfairly targeting mostly lower- and middle-class white females. This tax violates the Equal Rights Amendment, and our rights to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" when we can no longer afford a chosen service and the salons can no longer remain in business.
Why are 14 years olds allowed to get abortions with out parental concent and 16 year olds cannot tan responsibly with parental concent? This is backwards...
It is unfair to tax people's personal choices. If you don't like it don't do it, it is that simple! Government was not put in place to enforce their own PERSONAL beliefs, they are suppose to be there to protect the people's freedoms! Not to dictate to others how to live their life! I don't care whether or not you believe tanning is good or bad, you have to agree that this is AMERICA - LAND OF THE FREE and our freedom to live our lives as we choose is being targeted by our Government for their own personal beliefs and motivations (whoever contributes more to their campaign funds (ie. the dermatology industry) get laws passed that benefit them-to hell with the American's freedom. This is also a racial tax. People seem afraid to mention that. They took the bo-tax out because it was sexualy discriminating. Well, how about race, I guess it can only be racism if it is against a minority?
If they really need to find the money they are losing check the unemployment office and drug test and punish the ones abusing the system. I don't see why they don't when every job require a drug test.
There should be no tax on tanning. Tanners know the risks of subjecting themselves to tanning just as they do other things, yet still they continue. Tanning is our right as Americans and we should not be punished because we want to look good. It is our govenment's duty to speak for the American citizens - not dictate to them. We vote.....No tanning Tax! Listen to the people - it's your duty!
This is outrageous. I am a man and I don't support the use of these beds, or spray tanning, or any of this other nonsense either.
But I can assure you, a "tan tax" is a socialist move
I was told by my doctor that tanning is good for depression if done occasionally. This tax makes it so I cannot get the benefits of indoor tanning that I need.
I don't appreciate paying for a tax that is only pocketed by "lawmakers" to fund their vacations. I also feel like if you are going to pass a bill, there should be some research put into it by an outside source. Not research given to you by an industry who only wants to drive tanning salons out of town. I work at a tanning salons where our beds are regulated by the FDA to treat Vitamin D defficiancy. How are you going to treat children with Rickets if you drive the cost up for people who can't afford it?
Tanning is like my security blanket. Some people aren't comfortable in their own skin and knowing that I'm tan makes me feel better no matter how fat or ugly I feel!
this tax is rediculous and will close small business doors and cost jobs what happened to capital hill working for the people instead of their own greed
Stop trying to put the Small Business companies out of business by adding more tax. In this weak economy they can't afford all thes taxes. Tax all these Fortune 500 companies that you are giving tax breaks to and treat the Female-owned businesses and Small Business to stay open and/or keep from laying off employees increasing the unemployment percentage. BE FAIR AN TAX THE RICH!!!
TAXATION THROUGH HISTORY HAS NOT BEEN FAIR.... BUT IF WE LET GOVERNMENT PLACE A SPECIFIC TAX ON ONE THING AND NOT ACROSS THE BOARD YOU WILL BE PAYING A SPECIAL TAX ON EVERYTHING.....
