I am Armenian/ Lebanese I am so for this and it would change so many middle eastern women's lives. They can finally not have to marry men. I have 2 saudi Arabian females who wish they can marry each other and stay here, where they can be free to be who they really are.
My partner and I are able to live in her native Brazil, which allows immigration for same-sex partners...how sad that my country cannot offer the same. Please get with the times, USA, by passing the UAFA and getting rid of DOMA once and for all! Thank you!!
I've lived in Japan with my girlfriend for 4 years. I went to a wedding last month of my good friends, who are also American and Japanese nationals. They can now apply for either Japanese or American citizenship, and live either place without any visa problems. I, on the other hand, who's been together longer with my partner, have no such options. How unfair is that! Totally not cool, America!!!!
my partner has been here for the last 20+ yrs and even if we could marry it would make no difference cause they could take her from me any time and there is nothing i can do to help her
Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 1537, the "Uniting American Families Act of 2011." I appreciated hearing your thoughts on this issue. However, as a staunch supporter of traditional family values, I must disagree with you.
The United States recognizes the legal definition of marriage as the union between one man and one woman. Accordingly it does not recognize homosexual partnerships or marriages for the purpose of immigration. With that said, I agree that something must be done to reform the United States immigration policy.
Currently this bill is before the House Judiciary Committee for further review. I look forward to hearing my colleagues' findings in this regard. As the 112th Congress moves forward, I will continue to be an advocate for effective immigration reform.
It is an honor to serve Tennessee's 6th Congressional District. If you wish to share additional information with me concerning this or any other issue, please feel free to contact me or my staff at (202) 225-4231 or through email by going to my website at http://black.house.gov.

My response
Miss Black. Thank you for you quick response. But how can you defend freedom and the constitution. When your position denies the basic freedom to "love". As every person in this great country has the freedom to life. A basic freedom of life is the freedom to love. I believe your position is a human rights violation. I ask you to please reconsider and support H.R. 1537, the "Uniting American Families Act of 2011.

I had to leave the US in March 1986 to spend my life with my British partner. We are both still living in Europe and I am now a British subject. As an American born citizen I am upset my country is still forcing gay international couple into exile. We hope the next two decades bring about change.
In October 2010 my partner and I (together for more than 4 years) bought a home in San Jose and also filed for California’s Domestic Partnership. We were all ready for our wedding; that of course, never happened. He is here as an International Student. Our fear is that once he is no longer a student he must return to Mainland China. Please allow us to continue our life together as a loving couple. Our family and friends believe it will happen. We hope they are correct.
My partner and I are fighting and waiting for this so we can finally be together as we are seperated by these laws. I am in the U.S. and he is in the U.K.
I have been with my long term partner for 3 years, 2 of which I have spent in a dangerous third world country. I stand by the person I love and I would think that as a US citizen I should have the right to have him here. But I guess i am enough of a first class citizen to pay high taxes, yet second class enough to be denied rights.
I have been with my girlfriend for about one year and 5 months now. Yes, we have been doing long distance phone call, emails, webcam and visiting once every year for that long. We are in a very committed relationship and want to share our lives together. Unfortunately, we are separate by two different countries. She lives in the Vietnam and I live in the US. It is very unfair that we can not be together. The definition of a family shouldn't just extended to man and woman but to anyone in love and willing to make a loving family. I have been trying to find ways for her to come over here without any success. Please please pass this Uniting family act and fix this broken immigration system. I don't want to make the painful decision of leaving my country for my love. Please Mr. President, please use your executive order to grant immigration to thousands of binational to be able to come here to create a family!
While it may not be a Christian value, marriage is marriage and love is love. These restrictions are a damn shame. We need to wake up people. It's almost 2011!!
