I will have to watch the progress of this movement from the other side of the Pacific Ocean, because although I'm a U.S. citizen, born & raised here, I do not have the same simple right that my brothers have, to sponsor my non-U.S.-citizen partner for residency here.
I do not have the right to live in my own country with the person I've chosen to share my life with.
This is a no-brainer. Churches and church goers should not have a monopoly on civil, legalized, and federally recognized unions between any two people. It is an outrage in this day and age that these rights are not granted to all.
It is disturbing that in this century we are passing legislation denying law abiding Americans basic rights. Why should I be given more privledges by the State because of my sexual orientation? How is this different from race, disability, gender, etc.?
Separation of Church and State! Churches can keep the word marriage. Government just call everything civil unions when it comes to bestowing rights on families. All families should be treated equally, not just the "traditional" ones.
While most of my gay brothers and sisters are seeking to gain the right to marry, I've always thought it would make more sense to remove "marriage" for ANYONE from all civil law. It is not the governments job or business.
Let "legal" refer to Government and "marriage" can be for the churches! Why should the Churches be able to decide if I can get a tax break or commit my love for my partner.
Marriage is a rite, and in some Christian denominations, a sacrament. Civil union is a civil right. If we stop mixing church and state, the acrimony over gay marriage becomes pointless.
tired and ready to enjoy the fact I found her after all these years.. Life is nothing without love. So ask me anything about our country I will not answer you until I have the same rights as thy neighbor.. Wake Up . Tomorrow is passing be part of the change for today . Live in the now.. I count down my days to be with my partner my heart aches of separation ..
Who cares what it is called, I would like some federally protected rights. Why can't people see "marriage" for what it is, a long term business agreement between two adults agreed upon for the financial success of their future? Who cares if those two people are of the same or opposite sex? Too much emotion and religion has been thrown into the mix over time. Why can't two consenting adults combine assets to help secure a happy and stable future?
please...it is time to help each other . sign the petition , this doesnt cost you anything to get into this . Just think about you helping someone in the world that is suffering . we are all equal in the world there is no difference from any of us .
