The usefulness of prayer medically has been show to not only not have no effect but actually have a detrimental effect on the person that is being prayer for. The psychological effect of prayer promotes the delusion that a "better" life that awaits one after death and the pain of the world will be done away with. Not only do I find prayer to be in the same vein as voodoo and tribal mysticism, I see no secular purpose that the United States government could have with promoting such a private and personnel belief in the public forum.
While everyone should be free to practice or not practice the religion of their choice, children do not have this luxury and need to be protected from the sometimes misguided beliefs of their parents, especially in regards to their heath care needs!
The son should not suffer by the sins of the father
We have the responsibility to provide all children with proper, modern health care.
The boy pictured here is Harrison Johnson, who died of medical neglect in 1998. His parents were acquitted as they had broken no law in Florida, who allows an exemption for medical care if the parents PRAY instead.
