Please Keep Our Family Together

July 12, 2009

TO: HONORABLE PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA AND DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE U.S SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

My family is in a crisis situation, and we urgently need your help. We have done everything we could with the help of an immigration attorney and many prayers. We beg you for your compassion, so my family can remain united in our country, the U.S.A.

My husband, Rigoberto Santos, was brought to the U.S. from Mexico when he was 13-years-old. We met in school and despite our language and cultural differences, we fell in love. We have been together for 14 years and have three beautiful sons.

We started the process of getting Rigo's immigration papers in order years ago. We even had to sell our house to use the money for the legal fees.

My husband was only a child when he was brought to the U.S. Rigo has lived here most of his life, and feels more like an American than a Mexican.

All my family members are native-born U.S. citizens. Even thinking about leaving the U.S. has caused great emotional hardships for us all including my mother who is in poor physical and mental health.

We are her support system. She depends on me for transportation and other vital needs, while our sons, her grandchildren are the joy of her life.

Since the deportation came upon us, we have not been able to enjoy life because it is ever-constant in our minds. The stress is overwhelming, especially now that Rigo has been ordered to leave the U.S., next month. It would be extremely difficult for all of us to start new lives in that foreign country.

On behalf of my entire family, I beg you all in the White House and Capitol for mercy. PLEASE allow us to remain together in the USA, the only country in our hearts.

Thank you so much for your valuable time and consideration, Mr. President and Distinguished Officials.

My husband is stuck in Mexico due to the Waiver being Backlogged becuase according to immigration we didn't have enough evidence to prove Hardship....We provided a 14 Page letter with 34 pieces of Evidence with all our paperwork in order, yet you say that we don't have enough evidence....Bull!!!!! I have my husband in Mexico currently waiting for an answer. This time apart is really hard. I have a two year old daughter and she needs her dad her. I haven't found a job to pay rent, bills, diapers, and food. My daughter and me are U.S Citizens.
My husband has been in Mexico since his first Visa appt on June 15, 2009. What good is coming from keeping all of us separated. As a citizen and who voted for you, I request that you remember your promise for immigration reform. I realize some issues seem to out weigh others. But we need you to help us now. God Bless the U.S.A.
I would love for my husband to become legal, but i cant allow him to use the current system its broke beyond repair and is not made for all,Fix the current system make it usable by all who attempt citizenship,my husband should be finacally responsilble for his 2 american children, not my STATE resources!! FIX THE SYSTEM NOW!!!!
Mr. President -
You promised an immigration reform in the first 100 days of office, and you failed those who voted for you. I am a U.S. Citizen and married to a wonderful husband who has had to leave the U.S. in order to comply with your current immigration laws. I am a Citizen of this country and feel like a foreigner because I am not with my husband because the laws at the moment are keeping us apart. Please help bring my family and all families alike together. Would you like to be apart from your family because someone else who does not know you says?? Think about it.
I am a US citizen, married to a wonderful man who has been a positive, productive member of United States society for over 14 years - although he entered without documentation from Mexico, and is currently "stuck" in Mexico as we try to navigate our unwieldy, horribly inefficient immigration system. Although he regrets having entered the US in the wrong way, as a young man he saw no other option, no opportunities for growth or for making a life for himself. In EVERY OTHER WAY my husband is more of a model citizen than many natural born Americans I know. He has worked hard and responsibly, taken out and repaid loans, paid sales and property taxes, and has contributed to our SOCIAL SECURITY and MEDICAID funds (we have paystubs documenting this for many years). He has never been in trouble with the law. He has helped construct dozens of projects all over the United States. With no benefit of formal education, he has learned a second language and become a respected tradesman. Those like him who have built lives here with the TACIT approval of our government should have the opportunity to continue living here, and should not be punished as criminals. Please stop this travesty for Rigo, for my husband, and the millions like them. ACT NOW!!!!! Educate the public on the realities of our current system, and counter the myths promulgated by hate groups such as FAIR.
