I have had the honor and pleasure of living with 3 dobermans in my lifetime. All were shelter dogs. These animals are honorable, loving, personable, sensitive, sociable, and intuitive. I have lived with and loved many other breeds and mixed breeds, so from experience I feel confident in saying that Dobies are not the viscious animals people believe they are and they should not be punished for another government/military SNAFU.

THERE ARE NO BAD DOGS! Only bad people who terrorize and torment creatures who can not speak for themselves for profit or just to abuse them. I am aghast that the ARMY would even be involved in such a idiotic notion such as a ban. What do you do with the mentally ill? Ban them ? An animal is mentally ill if abused. Stop the abuse! Educate people !that this is NOT the solution to the problem OF BAD DOGS OF ANY BREED! We have rights and freedoms, unfortunately dogs are deemed mere possesions. SO WE are responsible for their welfare just the same as any of our possessions CARS, etc. How awful it has to come to such a matter as this!!!

I have had 7 dobies over the years, all with excellent temperament. One of dogs was an ambassador in a nursing home. The seniors looked forward to her coming and loved the interaction. They are extremely intelligent, loyal and fleet of foot. It's a shame that this breed is getting a bad rap by the Army.

I've been in the Army and sadly, as usual they are behind the times. Unless trained so, aggressive Dobes are a thing of the past. I've owned a 110 pound Baby of a Doberman that I sadly miss everyday. He wouldn't even go out in the rain! (By the way, I presently have a West Highland White Terrior...SHE should be on the Army's list!)I hope the Army wakes up!

My Doberman helped raise multiple litters of orphaned kittens and loved the mailman. This is after spending the first two years of her life as an abused dog. She was the sweetest girl who I sadly lost to cancer at the age of 10. Don't punish the breed, punish the people who can not train their dog of any kind to act appropriately.

Military Lifer family, and I am ashamed of the US army for turning it's back on a breed so loyal to the soldiers they served with.

Doberman Pinscher should not be on this list because they are smart, family oriented and act in accordance to their handling and training. What are you thinking? The Doberman has always gotten a bumm rap! Own one and you will see!

Not only is this ban an afront to an extremely gently breed of dogs (Dobermans), it is an afront to the members of our military and their families. It is unthinkable that the U.S. Government allows those in charge of military housing to force the separation of familes from their four legged family members based on unproven, unfounded stereotypes. Breed specific legislation targets the wrong creatures - specific breeds of dogs - instead of the guilty parties - humans who train their dogs to be aggressive.

I have had 5 dobermans throughout my life they have all been gentle & loving. Each dog that I've had was so loving that all they wanted was to be near us & follow us around like a family member. As with ANY DOG it is all in how they are raised & they environment they are exposed to that determines their behavior. It is my opinion that they are being labeled due to peoples preconceived ideas that they have heard. I believe the dogs to worry about, from the word go are german shepards. Every single one I have come in contact with doesn't seem to be friendly, they bark all the time and growl, those are the dogs that people are afraid of.

To whom it may concern:
I've owned dobermans for over 22 years and I have never experienced any type of aggressive behavior from any of my dobermans.
Todays dobermans have been breed to be more gentle and less aggressive than those of the past.
If this is the case you need to add poodles and several other small dogs to the list.

I have owed 2 extremely gentle dobermans. Dobermans are not an aggressive breed. If I remember my history correctly the military used dobermans in WWII and they were the best companions those soldiers had. They also gave there lives to protect those soldiers in there unit

Dobermans are the BEST, LOYAL, SENSITIVE, LOVING (and they are not PETS..but dedicated) family members. I find LUDICROUS this ban on Dobermans, whom are saving lives everyday.
Our Doberman made us better humane, Please revise this unjust ban. Thank you!

We have had two dobermans and they were the best dogs we ever had. I can't believe the Army has banned them after the service dobermans provided to their country in wars past.

I have had dobermans all my life. They are the best dogs I have ever known. Like any dog, it is how they are raised that determines their temperament - not their breed.

It is wrong and primitive to blanket-characterize the breed. It is so much more the dog handler/owner who shapes his/her pet behavior. We always had Doberman(s) and always from adverse past conditions which to the extent would allow for potential behavioral issues, but never had any problems. Wonderful and devoted companions for the family. It is time to lighten up and get an insight instead of taking the easiest and quite mindless path to avoid potential liability.
