Please support H. Res. 173
Sign the Petition : 600 Letters and Emails Sent So Far
| Please Support H. Res. 173 to continue 6 day mail delivery by the USPS. 6-day mail delivery service is an essential service that the American people have relied on since 1912, particularly working families that depend on the Postal Service for the timely delivery of their paychecks; Social Security is the primary or sole source of income for many senior citizens, and any delay in the delivery of their Social Security checks would make it difficult for them to purchase even essential items, such as food and medicine. Reducing mail delivery service to 5 days a week would inevitably cause not only delays in the delivery of mail, but higher postal costs, due to the many hours of additional overtime that the Postal Service would require in order to handle the resulting back-up of mail. People depend on regular mail delivery and ordinary postal customers and businesses would be greatly inconvenienced by missing a day of mail delivery. Losing one day of delivery would stretch to 3 days when the additional day is combined with Sunday and a Monday holiday. Delays like this could essentially drive mail to private carriers who might deliver 6 days a week. Please support H. Res. 173 | |

Please realize that discontinuing 6 day delivery will not do what it is believed to do. There are other, more useful ways to cut costs in the U S Postal system. Going to a 5 day delivery will hinder and restrict the public's ability to function competitively in the business world, forcing the public to find other options other than the Postal Service, eventually ruining it. Saveit by finding other options for regaining revenue, please, and save the local business scene as well. This comment has been reported to the site manager. In this economy the business's and people need their money, the checks that are in the mail. They operate on 6 days a week. They have 6 days expenses and many are on a tight budget. What about the elderly that only have someone come help them on the week-end. Oh I think that it is very measurable, not one of my customers that have asked me about it wants it. This is a slap in their face as far as customer service goes. When they have other ways they will use them. People don't have to take abuse. This comment has been reported to the site manager. First, why saturday? Just convenient? To Whom?Second, Are we telling our customers what they need and/or don't need, commercial as well as residential customers. Ie;Shoppers don't have to go out when YOU,the customer, want them to, just when we do?
Next, Not everything is measurable, no matter what the accountants say, a 5 day week will beyond a doubt shrink our customer base more than what they think.Very risky!!!
Finally, another intangible, the greatest benefit of all will be to change the mentality of all postal workers to not just understand but practice the fact that we no longer have a CAPTIVE CUSTOMER BASE, we need to treat and think of each and every one of them as we would wish to be treated in our own favorite stores.
