Years ago, immigrants had to forsake their old countries and adapt, and accept the law of the land in their new adopted country. The flag of the United States would now be their flag. The rules and regulations would be their rules and regulations. English is our national language. We should not have to bend to them, but they bend to us. It should not be an optional thing - it should be mandatory. ENGLISH IS OUR NATIONAL LANGUAGE.

I feel that it is only fair to make EVERYONE who lives in America speak English. My ancestors had to....and everyone else's too. Speaking a different (native tongue) language in the home is one thing. But when our school systems have to pay EXTRA teachers due to students not speaking English, or businesses paying Interpretors....it's getting ridiculous. I shouldn't have to "press 1 for English"! It should be a given! If my ancestors had to, what makes these people (mainly Illegal immigrants who should be deported because they have no place in America - unless they are legal) so special that they can disrrupt businesses and schools and the economy by not learning the language that has been spoken in America for so long!

Declaring English as the official language of the United States doesn not discriminate, but rather unifies the citizens of this great nation. Just as my relatives did in the past, new immigrants should be encouraged to learn the English language.

The English language being accepted for 200 + years has been the cohesive glue which has kept us together & unlike many countries with innumerable languages & dialects. We are proud of our language.

With so many immigrants coming to the united states language barriers are growing. english has been our dominate language and deserves to be the offical language of the united states. If people that don't speak english want to live in the US then they should be required to learn english . I disaprove of having things like signs papers being printed in two languages for example english and spanish. States should not require forgin language as agraduation requirement for high school.I beleive this is a waste of time where students can be learning more important things like personal finance. If a student wants to learn another language or go into a carrer that requires billingual skills than college is the place for that.
