We the undersigned ask U.S. senators and congresspersons to please support the bill S.2645 also known as the TREAT act.

This bill will make medication used to successfully treat opiate addicts more accessible.

Last year more than 43,000 thousand Americans died from an opiate overdose. 44 die each day from prescription opiods and 23 each day from heroin. In 2002 the FDA approved the use of Buprenorphine to treat opiate addiction. Buprenorphine treatment has shown to be extremely successful in many clinical trials. At the present time the amount of patients a doctor can treat is limited thereby making Buprenorphine treatment inaccessible to many suffering from opiate addiction. The TREAT act will raise the cap on the amount of patients a doctor can treat as well as allowing a hysician assistant or nurse practitioner to prescribe this medication. These actions will directly help to save the lives of numerous Americans suffering from an opiate addiction. Please support the TREAT act so these countless senseless deaths may be stopped.
